Hey, Tuz- I forgot you were doing one too- great job! That does look ambitious. Looks like you made enough joints on that one bike to build three. Also, I found you blog entries very interresting for a fellow newb. Great idea with all those disected joints and the stubby little mini frame.

SICK frame, I would kill for a picture of myself riding this ;)

Anyway, I was wondering, is pedal strike a problem on this build? Looks like you've got your bike propped up against your pedal.

Johnny's front wheel drive bent is pretty kick ass too.

Dang CurbDestroyer, i was just sketching up an all double-tube idea, right down to the
single-to-double seat tube transition. I like your results.

I like the Curbdestroyer bike too.
Thought of a way to do tubes like that in carbon, ( sorry, if it works it'll be a "secret", if not I'll tell you.

Ultraman; tubes are all mold/ mandrel or bladder molded. Sorry no shortcuts I know of. I did build the main triangle tubes in 6.5 hrs though. 2lbs structural foam was left in the chain and seatstays. 11g's each.

Latest builds and a finished Hammerhead;

It rides a lot like an old aluminum Vitus . It was more experiment than anything. I had to ad a couple more tubes behind the head tube to stiffen it up. The idea was to have a lot of compliance, without a lot of out of the saddle side to side. I didn't quite get it, but it's a start. I've got plans for a new frame I hope to start this week.

Built yourself a swingset, eh? Ah well, it looks great!

ultraman6970 09-25-10 09:10 PM

Incredible! How much does that thing weigh? Is there any difficulty making turns with these front wheeler drivers?

I love the look of the wheels too. If I saw that bike on the street, I'd hide my wife and kids. Terrifying.

wow o.o

ShaunJohnson 10-25-10 09:32 AM

Here's my very first frame. I built it at the end of last winter and completed it this summer. It has Columbus SL tubing. I built it all in my garage with only hand tools (no jigs or anything). Hopefully more will come.

I love the paint scheme. Is that a Nashbar threaded carbon fork? How did you prep it for painting?

Six jours 10-26-10 05:38 PM

What did your bottom bracket height end up being?

Yeah, it is. I just sanded down the clear coat and sprayed it with primer, color and then clear.

Low, haha. I messed up on the head tube length and had to change the chain stay angle to keep a horizontal top tube. It's not too bad, though.

It rides awesome regardless of the few, minor mistakes I made. Deffinitely beats buying someone else's frame!
