Framebuilders in Chicago?
I have a miyata and I was over tightening the rear wheel the past few years and the dropouts started spreading apart and it was wearing away the metal around the nut on the dropout. I can't take pictures, unfortunately, but I'm thinking I could just bend the dropouts back and get a frame builder to braze in the area of the dropout the got eaten away by the nut.
Anyone know of any frame builders in the Chicago area? Preferabley in the south or west suburbs. |
I don't know of many, but one very good one is Ron Boi, who runs RRB Cycles in Kenilworth, Il. North Shore rather than south/west burbs, but he's really really good (a KOF on Classic Rendezvous), and has done some frame work for me.
Try over in the Great Lakes subforum, they may know of a good one in your area of Metro Chi, but they seem to be mainly North Siders and north/northwest 'burbs. |
Owen Lloyd. He does rather nice work. http://lloydcycles.com/.

Thank you! I actually broke my collar bone, so I'm waiting on fixing this bike, but will soon enough.

Yeah, RRB bikes are pretty sweet. Seen all around the North Shore. They are most popular with the retired lawyer and doctor crowd...

Not surprising! Ron's in Kenilworth, he's their age, and no true custom is cheap. I'm near retirement, and I think it's worth it to get one bike that truly fits me and at least one of my riding styles. It'll be cheaper than a top Serotta, plus for the North Shore he's a local boy.
