Teach me Obi-Wan...

I'm going to school for welding this fall and am interested in frame building. Is there any body in the tri state or New England area That would want to start talking shop? This is still a few months off and I don't know much now but would like to start learning from someone with experience. I'm in Maine and recently found out we have a decent history of frame bulding and bike clubs.

Here's the way to do it: Find the builders in your area, make a personal contact- none of this anonymous internet stuff, and go from there. I think you'll find most pros are very open and wiling to share with someone who talks to them face to face.
Till then, read all the threads here and scour the archives from the Framebuilder's list at phred.org.

I'm pretty sure ANT Bike Mike has some kind of lesson deal going. For just under three grand he'll take you through the steps of building your own bike. Not really a full on apprenticeship, more like a week long crash course from the sounds of it, but probably worth looking into. You can check it out here: http://antbikemike.wordpress.com/br-3/

Not sure if that's what you were looking for, and it will cost you a little money, but you'll come out of it having made a bike and you have a new bike for yourself. I'm starting to get the itch for building myself and need to get on learning how to braze and weld, good luck!
