Disassemble? No disassemble?
 

I have acquired a Bianchi Alloro steel lugged frame and was curious if its possible to disassemble and rebuild to my specifications. ie. vertical drop outs, cantilever mounts, yada yada yada.

You guys are gods, please guide me!:)

it's not that easy. Much easier to start with new parts. The thing that usually finishes off such ideas (can I say no pun intended?) is the paint. Getting it back to near original is expensive.

So if I were to start with a new rear triangle, is what you're sayin???

are you sure it's steel? Got a magnet?

that was a very open-ended post. People replace dropouts all the time, it's a fairly involved process requiring a lot of care. Dropouts are all different, it generally doesn't work to just replace one set with another because the angle between the seat stays and chain stays are different between the different dropouts. Cantilever posts are not something I would recommend for a beginner, but they are fairly straightforward. There is a thread on here about canti posts that you should be able to find that talks about the low-tech ways of installing them.

I would have an overseer. I was just curious of your thoughts. Recommend it or stay away from it. My weak minded thought process on the whole deal was that I could practice frame work on this bike instead of wasting a whole tube set.
