Is this dent worth repairing?
I have a Shogun 800, a Tange 2 frame, with a dent in the left side of the toptube. I've had the bike for 11 years and it's definitely a cosmetic thing. I seen something about using blocks to pop the dent out. The hard way would be to replace the tube. Either way would require a repaint.
I just know if it's worth doing anything with. It rides great.
Thanks.

Was the dent caused by the handlebar? Unless it's really big, wrap some cloth tape over it to cover it up and protect from further denting.

It's been there since I got the bike. Looks like it fell over on something. It's just in front of the middle brake cable cleat on the left side, so too far back for the handlebars.

For a bike in that cosmetic condition, I would say that dent isn't a big deal.

To use frame blocks, you will need to remove the cable guide, file away any brass. The blocks will pop most all of the dent out but may still need a bit of filler to make it cosmeticly perfect. If the guide were not in the way, greased blocks can be used with perhaps minimal disruption of the paint.
You could also just fill the dent with bondo and repaint the tube (or add a sticker) if you dont want to mess with R&R the guide. Structurally, it is likely fine as-is.

I've got a similar situation I've been putting off. Is the Bicycle Research set the best deal out there? There was a good write-up thread out there somewhere outlining the whole process. I think it was in Classic&Vintage.
