Which rivet gun?
 

I'm adding some rivet-on brake cable stops to a frame that doesn't have any. Holes are drilled, stops are ready to go on, but I've run into a problem. The rivet gun I have doesn't fit down into the fairly small area of the stop, so it's impossible for it to rest against the head of the rivet.

I figured you guys would know better than anyone which gun has a head small enough to fit down in there. Just a hand-held model would be best for me since I don't have an air compressor, and I only have 6 rivets to install, then I won't really need it anymore.

I had the same problem and ended up altering the fitting on the end of the gun. A spacer would work but the correct part may be difficult to find.

I wouldn't even know where to begin modifying it, and I'd rather not f- up my frame or the stops in the process. Kinda sucks, because I was planning on doing primer tonight, and now I'm going to have to wait.

Well, I ended up getting it riveted! I decided what I needed was some sort of spacer to raise the riveter up high enough that the head cleared the stop, so I headed to Ace Hardware. I found aluminum spacers in 1/4" and 1/2". The 1/4" was too short, and the 1/2" was too long, so I bought the longer one and cut it down to about 3/8". It was just barely tall enough to clear the stop, yet short enough for the riveter to be able to grab the long, center section of the rivet. I was able to get both stops on, clean it up, and get some primer on the area. I'll sand tomorrow, and then it should be ready for paint whenever I get to it.
