Bamboo frame.
Hi everybody.
This is my first post here and first frame ever made, a Bamboo frame.
I used for this prototype steel dropouts (i think they are chinesse), steel BBshell and head tube.
All the joints are CF plain cloth and tow, mixed with epoxic resin.
I put 2 layers of polyurethane varnish.
I'm goint to build the bike this week... I hope eveything goes well....

The dropouts I bought them in a bike local store, here in Bogotá D.C., Colombia.

how flexy is the Bottom Bracket? I built my Bamboo frame and the BB is super flexy but it still rides great.

I just made some really small rides, around the block. For now I think it is no so flexible, it is really rigid but absorbs really good the vibration. I am a small guy I only weight 50kilos....
Tomorrow I am planning a ride with some friends... And I think this is going to be a good test for the bike... and me... I haven't ride a bike for a long time.... hahhahahaha.

Yeah if you built it right, you shouldn't notice any/much noodling at all. Sounds like you got it right the first try! Hopefully all your joints are up to snuff and you have an excellent ride!

This weekend I did almost 70km on the bike, 15 on CrossCountry and 55 on the road. The bike worked really good. The frame is really stiff, and I like it a lot. It absorbs a lot of vibration.
On the Dirty road (XC), I tried to jump, go over roots, bumps, stairs, mud, dirt, water... i everything went really good.
I am going to make some small videos and publish them.
And yes I got it right the first try!

how did you prep up your bamboo? did you work it still green? how thick the wall thickness? great work !! I'm thinking to build my first one here in Argentina.

I bought the bamboo in a bamboo store. They grow it and cut it in specials seasons on the month, then the let it dry, and burn it. The wall thickness was from 2mm/3mm to 5mm/6mm depending on the tube diameter.

I cut mine fresh and then heat treated it two ways. For the smaller poles I treated them in my gas grill with a huge industrial cookie sheet to protect from the flame. You must pop all the culms first or your tubes will explode. for the large tubes I heat treated with a hand torch like for plumbing. it will get bright green then turn golden brown and very sticky. the moisture will literally pour out of the end in steam and drips. after that I air dry for about 2 to 3 months so 8 weeks minumum to complete the process. you can search google for more accurate description and temperatures.

I've got a local shop where they have their own giant drying shed, so mine all comes pre age dried.
