I want to start practicing Oxy/ Actl brazing and silver soldering. Do I need special eye protection beyond standard welding lenses #5 welding lenses? Jerry

#5 is going to be too dark to see what you're doing. I've mostly been seeing people recommending shade 3.

Agreed. But I've seen pros use cheap sun glasses. Some use Dydimum (sp?) lenses which help cut the Sodium glare from flux. These are pretty low in the darkness range. As my eyes get worse with age i find equally important is the ability to focus at the distance that the brazing is at. Andy.
