2K Clear Coat
As I look toward my first frame painting project I came across this.
http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_2_part_2k_aerosol.cfm I sounds like a good idea to me for the first go as I can keep my material cost down abit. I am a woodworker and have a spray booth in my shop. I normally spray lacquer or 2 part fiinishes. As I am still learning about base clear coat I was wondering what brand base coat some of you use? Thanks |
I wonder how many people give themselves asthma /kill themselves with that stuff? The clear coat is what is really dangerous.

I would think with a good respirator and the spray booth I will be OK.
|
I've never tried that product, it looks like it might be interesting, but i wouldn't hold too much hope that it's as good as they are saying.
Cheap almost never equals good when it come to paint products....I can get a very nice powdercoat done for what paint costs in materials alone. |

I saw a company selling a car painting kit on ebay with dust masks. |
Over this side of the pond, ProXL do a similar product, a urethane acrylic. I've used it on a respray, and it's remarkably tough for an unstoved 2K clearcoat. But it's still not clear pure polyurethane tough, so be aware of that.
Second, can you guys get Respro masks readily over there? Their chemical filter pack for things like what they used to market as the Aero and now is sold for sensitive allergy uses works - the filter is activated charcoal and replaceable - picks isocyanates out of the air, although you'll still get he tiniest whiff of the lighter solvent molecules a touch.

Screw on canister masks are readily available. add goggles too, keep overspray out of your eyes.
|
And off your skin. Isocyanates crosslink with hydroxyl groups. They'll cure with your sweat.
