cracked aluminum fork
 

I'm back with more suspect cracks, this time it's an aluminum fork. The fork is from a Klein Stage. I've heard that aluminum forks should be avoided all together. I'm looking to sell this frame and fork but wanted to hear some opinions on these cracks before I did so. I can see a faint line that runs the circumfrance of the fork tubing under the paint along the same line other than where the paint is cracked. Wasn't sure if this had to do with the way these were constructed. Thank you for any assistance.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=275651

Might be a crown and blade construction, but you don't want to use it any more ,
if you like your face remaining un-scarred.

I'd recommend having a look-alike fork made of steel and then painted to match.

there are nice looking sloping style fork crowns
that also insert into the fork blade.. to be then brazed..

did you test the fork with a magnet? Looks like a crown with blades attached. I have no idea what is going on there, see no reason not to send it to the metal recyclers in a few pieces

Yeah that looks like a (steel) crown w/ internal sockets. Looks like rust in the cracks. You should scrap it.

The steer tube is steel but the crown is not magnetic. I do believe it is two seperate pieces. Off to the metal dump with this thing, maybe I'll cut off the steer tube so they don't give me the price on irony aluminum. Thanks for the replies.

take the measurements off it first so the replacement will be keeping the steering the same.
crown race seat to hub axis and rake, fork bend/ offset .

carbon Is trendy now, a threadless 1" metal steerer fork will be one more choice..

I guess it is gone by now, but I would have suggested communicating with Klein as the issue really looks like a manufacturing defect not a "user broke it". I have found that most builders really want it back to cut apart and examine; most will give you a new one without having to lean on them too much at all.

yep... fork went to Frank, seems like a good home for it. Thanks for the suggestions though.
