Fork integrity?
 

Thought I might ask you guys in here too since you deal with stuff like this.

so i recently put a bike together about a week ago. I came home today and noticed my headset was loose. Not cups in frame loose but fork in cups loose. In all my years I have never had a headset go loose on me. I am 230lbs and i ride hard and in a very bumpy city with lots of hills and its hard to always dodge stuff. I also use a front rack. I didnt notice it earlier today but that is not saying it hasn't been like that longer. Its a 1 inch threadless setup by the way.

So my question is, is my fork ****ed? Should I be concerned about the integrity of my fork at this point? its a surly fork so its on the beefier side. If it wasnt for my size and how and where I ride i might be less concerned but... god knows ive seen many forks like this and adjust and be fine. Im wondering if i should really worry or not? Thanks for any info.

Is it the cross check? I think if you actually had a fork problem that would result in your bearings loosening up, you would already have crashed. Did you install the headset? Face the crown?

I think something loosened up in the headset/stem interface, it happens

Ive just never had it happen, pretty on top of all that. my real issue is the integrity of the fork after flopping around in there loose while riding hard for who knows how long. My concern being fork breaking at the crown while riding.

You aren't going to have a failure because of a couple weeks of riding with a loose headset. I have had loose headsets in the past, it's not that hard to do, especially if everything isn't quite faced right.
