Will Holes for Internal Routing Compromise Frame?
This is my first post, so if it's in the wrong place, just let me know. I found a bike frame that I'm interested in, but the previous owner drilled one hole in the head tube and one hole in the BB to route wiring for a light internally. Does that compromise the integrity of the frame? The frame is a Reynolds 531 Trek 620 and is on ebay:

Structurally, neither are significant if the head tube hole is the same size as the hole pictured in the bottom of the BB shell. It's too bad the seller didn't take a photo of the head tube hole, but other than the cosmetic appearance of a hole in the head tube, the only issue you're likely to have is water entering the head tube and getting to the lower headset bearings, and rusting the steerer tube and inside surface of the head tube.
It would be pretty easy to plug both holes with Marine-Tex or J-B Weld. |
