First stop was to check out the scene at People’s Park. A site of local importance during 60s protest movements, it’s become a rather sketchy enclave for homeless, marks, and ne’er-do-wells. Recently, people have again been protesting UC Berkeley’s plans for a housing development project ton the site. They’ve barricaded the park with containers and closed access around the perimeter with a strong police presence after five protesters were arrested over the weekend.
