Rohloff stuck in gear 9 while on a short vacation ... this sucks

I had an issue with the Rohloff a week ago and it resolved itself. I thought at the time that perhaps the metal connectors (between the barrel adjusters and the hub) somehow got entwined. The issue disappeared quickly and I gave it little thought.

We biked 55 km yesterday with no problems. This bike is 16 months old and there's less than 3000 km on the hub. Back to the store when we return.

I looked online to see if there's anything I can do but there isn't.

You use the Back Up shifter? an 8mm wrench on the end of the hub shift sequencing shaft?

[NB Pg 99 of manual there are 2 small coil springs to lose if you tear it down as far as pictured above the Attention! banner in the top left of that page.]

If that works then the issue is with the cables and parts up to that point

You got the bayonet connectors in bare cable Internal or the Shift box, External shifting mech Type..??

Available on line is the entire Rohloff Owners Manual /Handbuch. https://www.rohloff.de/en/service/dow...documentation/

I took it to a bike shop near the campsite (opened on Sunday and Monday) and they took a look at it. They're not familiar with Rohloff but downloaded some information online from Rohloff and gave it a look.

Since we're returning home in a few days I'll let my own dealer do the work. . The guys tonight diagnosed the problem as being the shifter.

At any rate I rented a bike from them and have something serviceable to use. Thanks for the comments.

The Rohloff shifter is the simplest of mechanisms, two spools to wind the cables in opposite directions, no indexing. Not much to go wrong, but still, if cables are not routed correctly through it, it could cause problems.
