Balancing training and intimacy?
Hello mates, I've been hitting the pedals harder, longer, and more efficiently lately and it feels great to have a structured training program that shows results. Unfortunately, on many days I feel like my legs are on fire or my back is numb, I'm low on energy, or I'll nap during the day/sleep early. Over this year's season I've noticed that when the time comes I don't have as much energy as I want or need. How is everyone else balancing their sex life with their training/racing?
|
Overtraining is the first thing that comes to mind.

Priorities man...ease up, rest more, and enjoy a healthy balance between exercise and sex. What's the point of being in great shape if you're too tired to use it for fun?
|
seriously?

If you're so burned out that you don't have time/energy to be with your partner, then the only thing to do is either ease up or cut some training days out of your schedule. If you are burned up post-training more often than not, you are training too hard and not allowing your body to recuperate. If this is the case your gains will plateau quickly and you run the risk of increased seasonal illnesses due to increased blood cortisol.

The only balance that's usually required is a shower between activities.

Or won't stay married unless you can figure out your priorities without BF guidance.

Sounds like over-training. Although expensive, perhaps a few sessions with a professional trainer could provide some help...with the training, not the other thing - there you are on your own. |
Do you suppose that on your deathbed you'll wish you had trained more? What about spending more time with the people around you? I dunno, to me, people win out.

after extensive research on the topic, sex before exercise, not after
|
Yes, that's what I do. I am usually climaxing at about 6am, which allows me to be on the road at 6:30am.

+1 problem solved

Post-sex nap. Never skip the post-sex nap.

I then ride the 14 miles home, and that evening my wife and I go out dining and (social ballroom) dancing. The next morning I wake up particularly early and refreshed, though my legs feel depleted, I and go out and do errands and enjoy Sunday. I try to cycle six days a week, and Sunday is my rest day...

I've jumped into biking as hard as I can for a man my age and weight, but I leave enough gas in the tank to take the old tractor around the farm and plow a few rows as often and long as I want. Anything less is self sabotage.

Add some heavy weights into your training. It will not only help with the cycling but will increase your testosterone as well.
