Aero spoke

I've looked and seems to be unable to find discussion about this. I saw some videos on youtube about aerospokes and thought they looked cool. My question is are they suitable for mtn bikes or touring bikes? and if any people have experience using them, what are they like, how did the bike handle with those. I appreciate any responses.

I had one. It was heavy. Had it on a single speed. I sold it with the bike. Never looked back.

They seems to be selling a lot of their wheels these days to folks who are mostly interested in the look.
On the other hand, they have had a reputation as heavy-duty but heavy wheels.
Talked to a recumbent rider last year who had a pair on his bike and who found them to be extremely rugged/reliable.

Oh, I thought the discussion was about spokes that are a bit aero (ie flat or oval) .... I guess not. Some kind of special wheel ?

The only upside I see to these is that they should stay true vs a multi spoked wheel. Should.

They are also suitable for curb hopping and increase your street cred

Compared to a spoked wheel, an Aerospoke will be heavier-than-average. They also aren't as stiff laterally. The advantage is, they won't break spokes, which might make it popular for tandems or touring. As far as trueness, they're held to a looser standard - they won't be perfect - but they stay that way for the life of the wheel.

Why on earth would you want an aero wheel made for track and time trial riding on a mountain or touring bike?

Touring suitable No trendy for fixie kids , yes .

Go conventional get something that if you crash and mess it up an off the shelf wheel will be fine ..

If you get too fancy a small town shop can only help you Mail It Home , High summer the repair schedule is Nuts,

and tourists dont want to hang around for days for special stuff to be ordered and Shipped.
