First bike - advice needed! :D
Hello everyone
I am about to buy my first road bike. I have a few great options and really need a bit of help from some guys with experience. My price range is about 1500.- CHF. My three options are: - TREK DOMANE 2.3 for 1490.- from a local Bike shop. - CUBE PELOTON SL for 1290.- CHF from another local bike shop - and the third one is a occasion Bike from a Organisation which sells their "rent bikes": CANYON ENDURACE CF 9.0 SL for 1490.- CHF (abt 2000 km used) Rate of exchange CHF and USD ist pretty close 1-1 ;) THANK YOU for your advice and I wish everyone a nice day!! If I'm correct CHF is Swiss francs.
Looks like the Cube and the Trek are aluminum frames with 105 components. The Canyon seems to be a CF frame with Dura-Ace components. <-- my choice :) Ride them all the get the one that feels the best. |

My point is more, that the Canyon is Occasion. So how much is 2000 km in the world of road bike? How much wear do I have to expect? PS: Just got another possibility: Specialized Tarmac Expert for 1690.- CHF (Occasion). What about that one? |
I have never ridden a canyon, they are not available here in Texas.
Just ride them all and get the one that feels the best to you. 2000 miles is not a lot, less than half a years riding for a lot of folks. Get the one that makes you want to ride it. |
To be honest I haven't ridden any of them, but my best advice is to get the once that fits you best. Obviously CF + Dura Ace is the nicest of the bunch, but if you're in pain while riding it, it isn't money well spent. If it fits you right you'll ride more and enjoy it more.
2000Km is roughly 1200 miles, which isn't all that much for a road bike. The drivetrain should have plenty of life left in it. I would want to make sure the bike hasn't been crashed. Look for obvious signs of a crash: scraped paint (rather than scratched paint), scrapes on the brake levers (always a tell-tale sign for me), etc. Good luck and have fun! |
have a favorite bike shop? maybe a better price to be had across the border to any Euro zone country these days .
what with every shady character around the globe, has money in a secret Swiss Account, the CH Franc is overpriced .. |
Thanks a lot for your answers.
So I see as all of you say it should be the one which I feel best on it. Not first the price-performance option. Will have a look on these signs at the occasion bikes, as RushFan2112 said, thanks a lot. |

Any bike will show negligible wear after 2000km. My Litespeed is almost 14-˝ years old with well over 40,000 miles (64,000km) and many people think is only 1 or 2 years old. |
I will test the domane 2.3 for a bit of a longer ride and maybe compare it to the madone 2.1 to feel the difference with the "iso speed" technology.
Probably I will go for a bike from one of my LBS.. Some people recommend me that if it is my first road bike. Buying a new bike is so exciting and interesting :D Thanks to all of you |

my my first road bike was a Cube Peloton Race, I absolutely loved it. It was well made, a great ride, a good fit & When I sold it I got almost what I paid. I've never ridden the others. I bought my first bike at an LBS & the guy spent over an hour fitting it to me without any extra cost, excellent service. I'd thoroughly recommend using LBS. enjoy |

Yes exactly, thats why I will look in a LBS probably instead of a cheaper "used bike". I see in your name that you like Squash :). I play a lot of Squash.. I used to play on the PSA Tour for 3 years ;) |
Hello Guys
I just want to tell you, that I got my road bike today :D. It's a Trek Emonda S 5. So thanks for all your suggestions. Cédric |
Looks like you bought up a bit. I don't think you'll regret it... the Emonda is a beautiful bike. Have fun!

By "Occasion" I'm guessing you mean occasional riding, i.e. 2000km.
