question about hitch mount rack

For a hitch mount rack that comes with a 1 1/4" mount, I'm told there is an adaptor that can be used for a 2" hitch. Are these adaptors reliable? Is there danger of it disengaging?

I used an adapter on my Kuat rack without a problem.

IMO using an adapter to reduce a 2 inch receiver to 1.5 inch rack is not a problem. I have an issue going the other way though.

Most of the hitch-mounted racks I've seen come with an adapter, which is basically a sleeve over the end of the rack to fill the space between the smaller bar of the rack and the larger bore of the hitch. I think this set-up should be very secure as long as the rack is properly secured to the hitch.

In addition to the adapter, I also use this hitch mount adapter stabilizer thingie shown in the photo above, to keep the bikes and the entire rack from bouncing around at all.

Two wheels good. Four wheels bad.
