Pennsylvania isn't too bad. If the weather is nice, I am riding at least into December. There are a fair share of hills and good riding roads. Also, ample trails.

Proper cycling needs proper hills.

Plenty of hills here in the Southeast. Cheaha in Alabama, Six Gap in Georgia, Mount Mitchell in North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the list goes on and on.
The Six Gap is considered one of the most, if not the most, challenging rides in the entire Eastern U.S. So yeah, not boring at all.

No one has mentioned Colorado? I just moved here from the Texas hill country and I am definitely enjoying the summer here more than the Texas heat.

It certainly does. You just have to put up with the salt air corroding any unpainted steel on your bike, if you're riding along the ocean. I know, cry me a river.

Yeah, the absolute total amount of rain is less than those other cities but Seattle and Portland gets lots of misty, light rain. It's the gray like you said plus many, many days of mist. On the other hand Honoulu has a saying if you don't like the rain now, wait few minutes and it goes away. You get 20 minutes of heavy precipitation and the suns out.

I'll just toss this link into the mix ...

In it I describe the State where we lived prior to the one we're in now.

Ah, well you'll have to forgive my ignorance. My image of the SE is formed by terrain typical of Florida, I guess.

Midwest is probably the flattest region of the US. The Appalachian Mountains go through several states in the SE. Va, NC, SC, WVa, TN, Ky, GA, AL all have decent mountains in them. Yeah, FL and Louisiana are 2 of the flattest states in the country. But Indiana, Illinois, and a few others aren't far behind.

As a beginning cyclist, I like the rolling hills of the Piedmont area of NC (Raleigh). You can definitely find some nasty hills in the area if you look for them. But there's not so many that my riding is inhibited by hills. More by my Clydedom.

Funny, we moved from the SF Bay Area a year and a half ago for the same reason! Everything's relative, it would seem.

No love for the SF Bay Area? I moved from there, but it's gotta rank way up there.

You want climbing? Mt. Diablo and Hamilton in the East Bay, several great climbs on the Peninsula (Page Mill, Old La Honda, Alpine, Kings Mt., Tunitas Creek), Santa Cruz Mountains, Marin and Sonoma county

Views? Two, unrelated Skyline Blvds, one with views of the bay and the Pacific, the other with drop dead views of the bay.

Five billion bicycles rented and ridden over the Golden Gate Bridge daily. Alright, a slight exaggeration, and actually a negative for the natives!

The Pacific Coast - nuff said.

Great places to eat everywhere you go.

Bovine Bakery. Look it up if you don't know. I flew down day after Christmas for a 4 day tour with a buddy in Marin and Sonoma counties, my wife let me go on the condition that I bring back a peanut butter blondie.

One pic from that trip says it all:
