Giant OCR2 Road bike for beginner

Hey there,

my apologies if this is in the wrong forum but I looked and looked and this seems to be the best place to ask this question.

I have just completed my first half iron man in Victoria in the early summer and just two weeks ago completed my first Triathlon.

I currently have a Felt road bike but i seem to be just dumping money into fixing it so have been looking on line for a good used tri/road bike and have come across a 2014 Giant OCR2 road bike (small frame, 45 cm, I'm a 5'1 woman ) and they are asking $1200 and have said that it was purchased for $2300 new last year and has very limited miles on it. I took a look at it (with my limited knowledge) and everything appears to be brand new, no scratches, no buffs, literally looks brand new.

But.... I have googled and googled this bike and can't seem to find any information on the value of it when it was new or what it would be worth now.....
It seems like a good deal at almost half price and the bike looks and feels great but I just can't find any information at all about this bike???? Literally nothing.....

So I am curious if anyone knows anything about the value of this bike and if its a decent bike for beginners. I bike about 50 miles a week. I can't spend more then about $1500 so this seems to be a pretty good option.

And I live in a small town so the bike store I went to to ask them about this bike simply said they don't sell Giant bikes and don't know anything about it. So no help there....

I've attached (hopefully I did it correctly...) a picture of the bike.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this!!!

Welcome. I am no expert on Giant bikes. However, it appears that bike may be from 2002, not 2014. If so, it was a $750 bike when new.

Here is a link to some pertinent info. 2002 Giant OCR-2 - BikePedia

Knock $900 off the asking price and it would be reasonable

Bikes: Many bikes in three states and two countries, mainly riding Moots Vamoots, Lynskey R265 disc and a Spot Denver Zephyr nowadays

As far as I can find, Giant didn't make an OCR model in 2014.

The last model year I can find for that is 2008.

So the seller is either lying or misinformed, I'd be wary in either case, in addition to the asking price being very high for the level of components on the spec sheet (Shimano Sora). That bike has a triple. and as far as I know the better groupsets from Shimano and SRAM available in 2014 were not offered as triples, so if that really is a 2014 bike, I think that group would have to be Claris, which is below Sora on the Shimano hierarchy, and two below Tiagra.

Yes, I agree. The last year this model was produced was 2008, and the MSRP was $850!
Please see this:
2008 Giant OCR 2 - BikePedia

Also, you can check with Bicycle Blue Book and you'll see that this particular bike is worth maybe $325:
2008 Giant OCR 2 - New and Used Bike Value

Hope this helps.
Best regards
