Do you have to use paypal to buy on ebay?

May be a dumb question, but do you have to use paypal to buy stuff? I've bought all kinds of things in the past but a year ago someone got into my paypal account and emptied my bank account. My bank took care of me, but I was almost stranded in the middle of a trip. I removed my cc info from paypal and never used it again. Do you have to use paypal to buy stuff? I don't ever remember of an option to just use a credit card but I haven't been on it in awhile.

I don't believe you actually need a paypal account anymore, but I do believe if you decide to use a CC it'll just be run through paypal anyway. (As a guest)

Ok, wanted to make sure. I don't want to click "buy it now" and then be unable to pay.

Check what payment the particular seller accepts before bidding. A lot of them (like me) exclusively take paypal others will allow you to mail a check but it usually has to clear before they ship your item. Ebay offers guidelines but the seller ultimately decides.

Technically, no- but many sellers only accept PayEnemy; and many sellers block people who don't have a [STRIKE]PayPal[/STRIKE]PayEnemy account from bidding entirely [Realize that doesn't apply to you]. Best thing to do, is ask the seller before bidding. Ebay prohibits sellers from soliciting checks and money orders...but, far as I know, they can still accept them- buit then, you lose your buyer protection. PayEnemy sucks...but if you use it just for Ebay, and just as a buyer, it's O-K and actually offers you triple protection when funded with a credit card.

Just guarf your password, and never access the PayEnemy site through a link- always type in the URL and you should be fine.

I use my Paypal CC for ebay and Amazon and almost everything else. I keep a very low balance on it ~200-400 and just transfer funds from my bank account every week or so to replenish. If it's hacked I'm just out the balance. Probably not a perfect system, but it's something.

Someone please look at this link and tell me what the seller accepts. It has a paypal symbol as well as visa. mc, ect. And it reads "credit cards processed by paypal". I assume this means when I check out I just use my cc normally and it goes through the sellers PP account?

edit forgot the link

And set up two-factor authentication for your PayPal account.

Personally, I've never had any problems with PayPal, and its protection is quite handy and versatile. I do miss the old days when PayPal could generate single-use credit card numbers, though.

No...it means that you pay through PayEnemy, with a credit card that you have linked to that account.

I did some researching and I think I can get one of those prepaid visa's at Walmart and use it in a paypal account. Just load money on it when I want to use it. Does that sound like a plan?

I've done something similar before, granted it was a few years back. But you shouldn't have any issues.

Yeah, it figures- the REALLY good thing they had (the temp. use CC #'s), they get rid of!

But yes, I've never had a problem with PP either- they can really screw you over if you're a seller receiving money (they downright enable fraud!) and they won't fight illegitimate chargebacks and such- but for just buying, they're pretty good.

If someone pays via another means on Ebay, they're essentially giving up buyer protection, because without an online way to prove you paid, you're screwed.

I believe that would work just fine.

When your PP got hacked, did you file an unauthorized use claim with your credit card? That should have taken care of it. Between PP and the CC co., you're protected pretty good- sometimes you just have to know the right words to say or the right thing to do, 'cause the customer service people often have IQs slightly below that of an amoeba.

I didn't even deal with PP after that. As soon as I got off the phone with my bank I went in and deleted my cc info and have never used paypal again. I did check my account, they locked it and I have to send them a bunch of stuff to get it activated again. Seems like the best option it to just open a new account with a different email and use a prepaid visa. I freaking hate paypal.
