Bungee nets?
 

Now that I've finally gotten around to attaching a rear rack, I'm playing around with various options for securing objects to it. I already have a couple of panniers that work pretty well. How many of you use a bungee cargo net to tie stuff down? Which specific kinds of jobs do you prefer it for, and which makes/models do you recommend (if it matters)?

I use one on my Moto Guzzi all the time. It would probably depend on whether you could find one scaled down enough--- mine will affix a large pack.

I used to use a Bontrager one (I think) to tie down my disc golf bag. I liked it better than bungee cords because stuff doesn't shift around as much.

Bungees are great because they stretch and adjust easily. But, they also keep stretching once loaded, and your stuff can wiggle loose. Just saying, be careful with bungees.

Straps are more secure but less easy to use.

Rivendell folks love strapping stuff to the racks and baskets on their bikes, so Riv carries several good options for straps and bungees.

I've got a cargo net and various straps but rarely ever use them. I generally prefer a racktop bag for carrying gear on my rear rack. The cargo net and straps never seem to be the right size to hold items securely.

I can’t tell you how many minutes I spend each time sorting out my bungee cords before I’m on my way. A lot of the time is un-hooking it from itself and from the other bungee cords.

I have a bungee net but it’s small and I use it only when my bag doesn’t have a lot of stuff in it. When it’s full (raincoat, lunch box, gym gear), I use the bungee cords.

My front panniers each have 2 D rings , on the rack the stretch net hooks on to them & makes a perfect boxed Pizza take out carrying scheme.

Bungee net aka cargo net over the basket, most of the time. I have used it on the rear rack to hold down a large pack of TP. I don't know where mine came from, possibly Velo-Orange or the LBS. I have several of them.

Big help. I always toted a bungee cargo net on my motorcycles and just ordered one for my bicycle's Blackburn rear rack.

Besides being handy for odd stuff I might acquire while riding without a trunk bag, it'll also help stabilize my trunk bags when loaded with 30 lbs or more of groceries. My trunk bag is pretty secure as-is, but occasionally I'll have a couple of items that won't fit in the bag, so a cargo net will help.
