when you built bike how do you weight the wheels the groupset? Do you use digital scale? Wich brand is the best digital scale for that job

I have a hanging luggage scale that I use.

I use a Rapala fish scale.

If I wanted to weigh my bike our shop had a Park Tool Scale but honestly I didn't care too much. If the bike feels right to you, just ride it. The only time you really need to know the weight is if you need to fit into UCI or other race weight limits.

I do generally try and weigh my touring panniers just to make sure they are as even as possible so nothing is lopsided and also to see if there is stuff I can remove that I really don't need.

Walmart has cheap-ish digital luggage scales that are excellent.

My digital scale came from the Walmart fishing department.

What is your objective? How accurate do you feel that you need it to be?

I have a bathroom scale that measures to the tenth of a pound. That's more than accurate enough for my purposes because I don't really know that my purposes are.

I bought a digital luggage scale via Amazon... it was like $5.

I added an "S" hook and a bit of cordage to it so I can hang the scale by my garage door opener. Allows me to weight anything up to about 50 pounds (even a whole bicycle).

I have a number of scales for different applications and that cover different ranges. For cycling components, a scale with 1gm resolution and accuracy is appropriate. Many are available on Amazon.

I, picked for function, don't weigh a thing, I Just put things together ..

When Finished I can use a hanging scale at the LBS..

Triple beam scales were popular, for Pot Sales, BITD. Kgm to Oz.

When I build a bike, I don't weigh anything. If I get curious about how much my bike weighs, I weigh it using a bathroom scale, first me, then me plus the bike. I know how to subtract. I know that right now I should lose about 10 pounds of body weight. There is simply not enough money in the world to lose that from my bike

I'm 5'8" and ~250, and bikes roll well because they usually have decent bearings and they are geared at a ratio of much more than 1:1.

Even if they aren't I consider mine free weights with stripes and a fake gas tank and I don't pay $100 a month to pedal really fast and go nowhere (in a building with windows so they can see you, and music I might not care for).

I call that win-win and I am 7-8x as heavy as my bikes.

You're much more finicky than I am. I simply pick it up and decide if it feel light enough or not. The last time I weighed a bike was over 40 years ago, when top end bikes were close to 21#s and we were all struggling to break the 20# barrier.

My digital scale only goes up to 500g, 0.1g increments... er, I mean what digital scale... :innocent:

I can't believe you would recommend a DLSSO (digital luggage scale shaped object) from Walmart to weigh bike parts. You definitely need to go to your LDLSS (local digital luggage scale shop) and spend the money on a good digital luggage scale.

I bought a CJ-4000 digital scale a local espresso bar uses to weigh each shot. (They had one for sale on the shelf for about a year.) 4000 gram capacity to half a gram. Obviously meant to be used it it can weigh the grind for every shot the baristas pour.

I used it to pack for Cxyle Oregon. (60 pound max, one bag). Made a spreadsheet of all items. (Actually did that years ago and just added a column for the weights.) Final bag checked within a pound of the calculated as weighed by a bathroom scale.

In real life, the scale gets far more use weighing coffee beans. But it is easy to use, easy to keep the tray clean, measures in grams, ounces and pounds, easily zeros containers and will count parts (like ball bearings). $35 but a purchase that makes my life better.

Edit: NOT accurate enough for drugs, a real plus.
