How much can I sell this Cannondale F400 year 2000 for?
So I've had this Cannondale F400 year 2000 bike for the longest time. Front brakes don't work too well. Besides that it runs okay. How much do you think I should sell this for in NYC craigslist?

It will never go for more than anyone is willing to pay. Couple hundred in full working order.

That bike is a bit of a mess at the moment, some easy fixes would really help it.
Both QR's are fitted on the wrong side
The saddle is a mess, ripped
The big issue with the bike, is the stem, the stem is incorrectly fitted, and is only being held on, on the lower pinch bolt, this really needs looking at, thinking the stem just needs to be moved down to fix this.

Lucky to not have crashed face first onto the ground.

Not as much as you want, most likely. I'll stay away from headshocks. There is nothing phenomenal about it, it is in a bit of a rough condition at the moment. I would price it at 130 and be happy to take 115. If you bother fixing everything, replace the saddle with something that isn't torn up, clean it up and make sure the tubes hold air, I might list it for 175 and be happy to get 150 from it. Take it to a bike co op to get it working for a lot less than a shop will charge.

I ride a similar bike - Killer V 500 - which uses the same frame and Deore XT group. Mine has the Marzocci Bomber forks, Mavic / Maxxis wheel & tire combo and a very nice Selle saddle.
I paid $200 CDN for it in that configuration and in full working order from a small local bike shop.
Fix the issues others have already mentioned and if you are patient you may get $150-$175 USD for it.

That stem is positively scary. Obviously you should correct that before you sell it. I'd be surprised if you could get better than $75-100 for that bike though. Certainly in my arae that would be the case.

The pics indicate neglect. I'd give $50 for it as-is, assuming it's going to need more $$ and work to get it road worthy.

Your pics weren't up when I replied. Cannondale sold those with small frames from the V-line. You figure there's enough seat post sticking out? The stem....well you already heard. I don't have a solution to selling this and coming out ahead. Good luck tho.

If it were in good shape, I'd agree with the guesses south of $200. But as people here have said... geez

My strategy on CL is to list it a little too high, but still well within the margins of what it should sell for. I'll add on 10-15 bucks to what I think it's value is (which is the price point I might consider buying it at) and be flexible, but have my minimum cut off as well. Sometimes I get lucky and the buyer won't even bother haggling over the price. It makes me think I probably listed it a little too low after all, but I don't want it sitting around for a month or so. The longest bike I had listed was maybe 4 days.
All fixed up, I think 175 would be a fair price...200 if you are feeling spunky, though if you keep it under that you should get more responses. You want it to move quick so you can put that money to use elsewhere. I don't think selling bikes is always about getting top value unless you have something special, but at the same time you should always get a fair price.
Some people (most people) are completely delusional about what their bike is worth (hence saying "not as much as you want, most likely") - I'm guilty of it myself until I am actually writing the CL ad.
Between CL and ebay, I always try CL first because it is free. I have yet to need to resort to the bay.
