The question is "how fast is your bike," not how fast you can make it go. Some bikes are faster than others just standing there.

I do OK on my bikes; but this one (of mine) looks like it's capable of going supersonic even without me.

It doesn't seem so out of reach to me. I maintain about 16-17 on a flat and that is at 43 years old and only 2nd full year into bicycling. How much would 80-100 extra pounds of gear loaded on your bike would you say slow you down? I'm on a hybrid and probably have 100 lb. on these folks who claim 20 mph. I would gain a mph or 2 if I switched to a road bike and I'm sure I'd gain significantly if I lost 100 lb. of weight. I only need 3-4 mph to get 20 mph.

Note I did state as I think others usually state that they can maintain x mph, not average x mph. There's a big difference. You can't look at average at all. I ride 6 miles out and 6 miles back on a flat bike trail. I don't ever go below 15 mph and I don't ever exceed 17 mph for the complete 6 miles out. Just the time it takes me to start out and stop at the end of 6 miles, which probably doesn't take a minute, reduces my average to around 12.5. It's difficult to provide data of what you actually are capable of maintaining, but that is a reasonable comparable measurement rather than the fact that I average 12.5 because I cruise 16 mph for 6 miles straight in the woods along the river on a rail trail before stopping and turning around while Joe Blow can cruise on his road bike at 20 mph but still only averages 12.5 because he's stopped for 78 stoplights, stopsigns, an traffic on the roads in the city.

To average 20 mph overall, you must be doing 22-23 mph on flat ground to make up for the times you're climbing more slowly, and for times you're slowing for stop signs/lights or speeding back up. It's not easy, but that's why it's 'the standard' of performance. I suppose 4-hour centuries are the GOLD performance mark, but so few people are capable of that without group help that it's not really a standard.

Ironically, although the bike pictured above is supposedly my fastest bike, it's the only one of my speed bikes I haven't used in a sub-5 century. Maybe next year... BTW, I'm doing good on my hybrid to average 14 mph for 25 miles; so BIG difference between a hybrid and something designed to go fast.

With the Stromer, I can hit 32 mph if I ride as fast as possible and give it all I've got. I can't do that for very long.

Off topic question but does the Stromer give you an indication of how much power you're putting out vs the motor?

No, it just has one to three bars indicating how much battery power I'm using.

My favorite bike will travel at the speed of light. It says Litespeed right on it in big letters.

How fast will you be going if another Litespeed is heading towards you?

Some day...

It's hard to capture grade in a photo but you've done it perfectly. That looks steep.

One of my bikes reached a speed of close to 600 MPH. In the baggage hold of a jet aircraft.

I take no credit for capturing anything, and no Photoshop enhancement jiggery-pokery or clever angles going on in those photos. Pikes is the hardest I've ever climbed.

After reading this last night, I went for a ride today. I hit 26 mph for just a bit on level ground. Was tough pedaling at that speed. My best going down a small hill ( all we have in north Fl) I did get up to 32 mph . Can hit 20 mph just about anytime and maintain it for a while. Getting better and stronger at doing the speed thing.

I once rode up an 11% hill, through untamed forest, at nearly 150mph on my hardtail. I don't remember doing it, though.

It's possible that my phone's GPS made a mistake.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I got up to 21.5 mph on my hybrid here last night. Can't get much flatter or smoother than a concrete manufacturing plant floor. Not a lot of room getting up to speed, plus I was in blue jeans, steel toe work boots, and wasn't warmed up...

I've hit 36 on a fairly short steep hill on my Domane, it was very steady at that speed. I feel cofident it could go much faster on the same incline as I wasn't pushing it my hardest.

If the two bikes hit head on the universe will collapse in on itself. The opposite of the big bang.

Well my bike has a sticker on the down tube , built to go fast, but not with me on it! I cruise at 25 or so and break downhill. 35 a few times on a hot summer day downhill.
