Ride Lake Okeechobee recently?

Wife and I are heading to FL for the Tour de Cape ride in a week.
We are wanting to ride (tandem) around Lake Okeechobee.
We would ride clockwise and the distance is not and issue.
I spent some time searching and it looks like about 2/3rds of it is being worked on by the Corps of engineers. So those parts are on the local roads. Correct?
What can we expect the traffic to be?
Any particular roads to avoid?

Any feedback, and in the next week, would be much appreciated.

I spent a month there at a rv park near South Bay riding every day. It was 2 years ago so I cant accurately comment on how much of the LOST is open now. US 27 on the south end is very busy, 4 lanes with a narrow shoulder. 78 to the west is wide with decent shoulder and much less traffic. The LOST was open along the east side of the lake so I never rode 98. I enjoyed the area in general except for the daily cane field fires. I was warned to use caution in the towns of Belle Glade and especially South Bay by the local police as being high crime areas. I had no issues personally but I did not cycle there.
The LOST was an enjoyable ride with great views but frequent high winds.
Google maps/street view is a great way to get an idea of road conditions.
Enjoy your stay.
