Trek Emonda Sl6 Vs Sl8 ( Same price right now)

Hey guys, first post and first major bike purchase.
I have been looking for my first road bike and want to "do it once and do it right"
I was looking at the Emonda Sl6at a few local shops and found one shop that is selling the sl6 and sl8 for the SAME price. Usually about $2k difference. No defects or anything, they just said its a current sale, likely due to the sl8 not moving off the shelves that quickly.
The main difference is the sl6 has Ultegra and the sl8 had scram red.
Its my understanding that though the scram red is thought to be a higher tear- some actually enjoy the Ultegra much more.
What all should I be considering here and is it a no brainer to just go with the sl8?

Test-ride both.

Red as I understand it is deemed to be on par with Dura-Ace---very light, top-quality stuff. Ultegra is supposed to be step below ... but some prefer Sram's double-tap to Shimano's double-levers.

I don't think you could go wrong with either.

If nothing else, consider buying the SL8 and selling the Sram Red if you don't like it ... you could likely get a full Ultegra group with a few bucks left over.

SRAM Red will be a lighter. Both work very well.
They used to say "whatever fits your hands better", though Shimano changed their shifters and the latest versions are fairly close to the SRAM shape.

One of my bikes is full Ultegra and the other is SRAM red. I love both. Test ride both bikes (not in the parking lot but do several miles) and buy the one that speaks to you.
