You ordered thru Amazon, they farm it out to smaller businesses, usually you get a choice, I think you might have gotten used tires.

dunelt_1954 01-31-16 04:03 PM

Wow... It looks like one new tire, and one from a refuse bin. Was it actually Amazon, or were they just the agent for another vendor, i.e. "ships from seller x"?

jamesdak 01-31-16 04:09 PM

I wouldn't worry about it. Just contact Amazon and let them know what happened. I've only had two issues that I had to return with Amazon and they were awesome to deal with in terms of the return.

Jiles 01-31-16 04:13 PM

They will be returned already called them.

noglider 01-31-16 04:15 PM

Please tell us who the third party vendor is!

Jiles 01-31-16 04:19 PM

Tires were listed as----- sold by and shipped from Amazon Prime! Strange thing is that they were actually sold and shipped by Warehouse Deals

dksix 01-31-16 04:45 PM

I find I'm disappointed more than I'm not with Amazon but just with slow shipping, never had a quality issue one I received my order.

canklecat 01-31-16 08:31 PM

So far my only disappointments with Amazon were from low volume and niche vendors who specialize in bargain bin and closeout items. No problems so far when Amazon handles everything. For the rare problems, their customer service has been very good.

Slow shipping via Amazon Prime is usually the fault of our local post office, not Amazon. The hybrid UPS/USPS and FedEx/USPS with the post office as the final leg is often late here, so the free 2-day shipping usually works out to 3-5 day shipping. There are thousands of complaints on Amazon, but it's up the to post office to resolve the problem. FedEx and UPS are usually on time when they handle the final leg of delivery.

When USPS handles the final leg, it depends on the letter carrier, many of whom now are temporaries and poorly trained or motivated. Some will deliver directly to our door, some won't. Some will leave packages in the mailroom and expect our apartment complex manager to retrieve packages for us. Some carriers will even falsify delivery attempts, claiming they tried when they hadn't, and leave packages at the post office for us to retrieve. It's very inconsistent and complaints result in only temporary fixes. It's a systemic problem.

DrIsotope 01-31-16 08:33 PM

Buying from Warehouse Deals is like buying from a swap meet... over the phone.

CliffordK 01-31-16 08:40 PM

E-Bay encourages sellers to take photos of the actual merchandise, although not all do.

Amazon uses stock photos. New should be New. But, used.. has a pretty simplistic grading system.

You'd think that the people fulfilling the orders and shipping would exercise at least a smidgen of quality control.

The Schwinn tire looks nice, if that is what you ordered.

My problem has always been with what appears to be Amazon sitting on the order a few days (up to a week) before the order is shipped, once shipped the delivery time is what I've come to expect with ordering anything. The last order I made through Amazon was placed on 12/28 and not shipped until 1/3 (yes I know 1/3 was a Sunday) and then received on 1/6. I've come to expect online vendors to ship next business day, I almost always have a tracking number within 24 hours from eBay sellers or the few (3-4) other places I order online regularly. I feel this delay is created to add value to Amazon Prime membership, which I do not have.

DrIsotope 01-31-16 08:51 PM

I really feel it needs to be emphasized that the OP's order came from Warehouse Deals, which is NOT the same as ordering from Amazon fulfillment, or even from a 3rd-party seller in the Marketplace. Some deals can be had-- but there is a significant element of risk ordering from Warehouse Deals, as everything the list is either used or defective, and resold to try to offset loss. I still test the waters now and again, but have gotten completely DOA items a handful of times. Luckily, returns are as simple as those sold directly from Amazon Fulfillment.

You might be right about the unofficial policy to pressure folks into subscribing to Amazon Prime. We've subscribed for a few years and it's paid for itself every year. For one thing, my mom is on the same account. She has dementia and Parkinson's, and between the short term memory loss and shaky hands, she often makes inadvertent orders via her Kindle Fire HD (which she enjoys very much, otherwise). Amazon customer service has always been cordial and responsive in cancelling unintentional purchases of movies and other digital orders, and mistakes in orders of physical items. But it's also great for movies, TV shows, music, free cloud storage (although it's not as well organized as I'd like for my photos and videos).

So far the only time Amazon has delayed shipments has been on certain orders such as office supplies, which are marked to indicate the order won't ship until a certain dollar value has been reached. That's fine since it's clearly marked and I can always opt for a different shipping option as long as I'm willing to pay extra.

Other than that, no delays on Amazon's end. It's always the darned post office. But I wouldn't be surprised if they give priority to Prime subscribers, although that seems risky and might alienate potential customers. While I'm a fan of Amazon they aren't the only game in town. Most of my bicycle items come from Nashbar, directly through their website rather than their Amazon store. Many of my photo items come from B&H and Adorama. There are many online retailers with good prices, reliable shipping and competent customer service, so Amazon can't afford to alienate customers.

I believe this 100% that is why Bike Shops have existed since bikes have existed. You can go in and get good knowledge and advice and buy parts that you can actually see and hold in your hand or at least know they are coming from a respectable distributor of bike parts like Quality Bike Parts or J&B or BTI (there are others).

I know Jeff Bezos sells stuff super cheap because he is your best friend and all bike shops are total and complete rip-offs full of scamsters (or at least that is what some people think) But honestly your local bike shop is a good place to go and build a relationship with because it is mutually beneficial to both parties and helps keep cycling alive. If you help us out, we can better help you out all of which in the end is good for cycling. If all the bike shops were gone and only online retailers existed we would be screwed.

Being in the industry, and interacting with them directly, I'm stunned how far the USPS has slipped. You're also very correct about the inconstancy in personnel and facilities.

I agree about Amazon being a good value, well worth every penny of the cost. I would give up Netflix and subscribe to Prime if it wasn't for what appears to be purposely delaying orders and the horrible user interface on Prime streaming service. But as for now I use eBay for most general online shopping. Most of what I buy online is, of course, cycling related now and navigating to a specialty category like tires (for browsing) seems to be more elusive on Amazon than eBay but maybe it's just what I'm used to.

GerryinHouston 01-31-16 09:42 PM

On the contrary, I pray that the last leg is with USPS. The USPS driver always takes care to deliver the packages in a location not visible from the street, so we don't get ripped off. The UPS guy will just toss the packages over the locked gate, however, the driveway gate communicates with our front gates and the packages can be stolen. At Christmas time, some guys in a pickup truck were observed tailing the UPS truck.

I lost a new pair of pedals and a Schwalbe Marathon Plus. UPS explained to me that it is at the discretion of the driver whether to leave a notice or deliver the items to the front porch! Ha!

Thankfully, Amazon came through with replacements.

It is very fashionable to put down the USPS letter carriers, but I for one, do appreciate their service and care.

Not fashionable, just a realistic observation. I have no beef with the post office. Quite the opposite. My great-grandfather was a postmaster. Several relatives and friends have been letter carriers, including a cousin. I support the post office, although they're making it more difficult. For years I preferred Priority Mail almost exclusively, both as a sender and recipient. No more.

Part of the problem is the mandate by the federal government for the USPS to pre-fund their retirement program. This burden caused at least some of the problems. The post office is using more temps and their attitudes and work ethic vary tremendously. That's a fact. I've spoken with several of our neighborhood letter carriers and the attitudes range from professional to indifferent. We've witnessed them falsifying attempted deliveries, mis-delivering mail repeatedly, and failing to deliver some mail at all.

Our apartment complex manager doesn't want the responsibility for delivering packages, but it did absolutely no good to ask the USPS to do their jobs. When pressured too hard, the letter carriers would simply not bring in packages at all. I've actually had to go out to the parking lot and ask to check the USPS truck when the sender emailed me a delivery confirmation, but the package had not been delivered. The letter carrier would hide or "forget" it inside the truck.

In my apartment complex the problem became so bad a couple of residents took over the chore of making final deliveries. They literally wait in the lobby from early morning until the letter carrier arrives, and then deliver packages to fellow tenants. It's the only way to ensure some neighbors get their prescription meds and medical supplies delivered on time.

I've discussed the problem repeatedly with the local postmaster and national ombudsman. And I have emails from the regional postmaster telling us not to bother them with any more complaints because they won't read them or acknowledge them. The ombudsman's office (usually staffed with former letter carriers and experienced folks) admit it's an ongoing problem, but difficult to fix because they're so dependent on temps. And the problems vary significantly throughout the US, with some areas worse than others.

Warehouse deals are second hand; they're returns.

indyfabz 02-01-16 06:31 AM

Those look worse than the tires on my junked Cannondale T700 that's in my basement and has not been ridden in 16 years. Were the savings worth it?

bikecrate 02-01-16 08:19 AM

I started a thread in FOO about my bad recent experiences with Amazon. Some of the items it seems like they just threw anything in a box and hoped you would except it. Mixed results on returning. Most have been fine. I'm still having a problem with a vendor and their broken camera.

With all I have bought, I have only had a problem with outside venders. Seems like they are much slower shipping and not as described.
I bought three items from NiagraCycle and shipping took ten days.
For that reason, I am very reluctant to buy anything from Amazon that isn't prime and that is sold and shipped by someone else.
As I stated--I never heard of Warehouse Deals until I received these tires. If I had known they were coming from outside vendor, I would not have bought.
Strange also, that when writing a review, it will be for Amazon not Warehouse Deals? ?
I am beginning to think that WD is a division of Amazon.

trailangel 02-01-16 09:44 AM

Get a camera from Amazon that you can focus too!

I think they are, but not sure. I have more details in my own thread, but some problems were Amazon, some 3rd party etc. It was a bad month.
