cycling vs work

Which do you choose?

Someone just forwarded me a job opportunity that would probably mean a little more money, but I didn't even apply -- not that I'm guaranteed to get the gig.

All I could think was, new job in the summer? No way... my current gig is flexible and I've built up vacation time.

I know, someday I need to grow up. Too bad I'm already old.

Hard question... it's sort of a live well today or live well tomorrow dilemma.

In a way, I've chosen the 'live well tomorrow' option at the moment. I get paid pretty well, but I have to travel a lot during the week which cuts in to my cycling time in a major way! But, with both of us working we're able to invest a lot of money (oh yeah, and I still get a decent toys budget ) so that in 10 years time we won't have to work so hard, but instead have our money working for us.

Tough choice, and there's more to a new job than a little bit more money. What's the security like? What are the advancement opportunities?

Agreed Stubacca, You have to look at the future, new job might provide some opportunities that the old job may not. You shouldn't burn your bridge before you have too. There is nothing wrong with finding out all the facts before you just say no. You never know how the new job may fit for you. I say send your resume and find out. Whats it going to hurt???

Oh, and more important than anything else....

Would the new job allow you to hang out on bikeforums all day instead of working?

"This job would be great if it weren't for the customers" - Dante, from Clerks

Now if you turned down that Research and Development job for Cannondale or was it Specialized, then we would have to shoot you. haha. Seriously though if this job offer would have just been moving sideways, then yeah don't take it, but if it was a step up, I would think on it a little more.

Do the jobs both have the same "fun factor"? i.e. would you be doing something new and more esciting? Just 'cause you apply now might not mean you'd have to start now it depends on their needs, they might be happy with a September start.
Other factors:
Would you have to move
longer comute
be able to work from home sometmes
folks you work with

I wouldn't change jobs just for money.

I chose riding. It wasn't that hard for me to walk.
