Where in the house do you keep your bike?
I've just gotten back into regular cycling with the first new bike I've ever bought with non-paper-route money -- a Trek 7.2 FX.
Where's the best place at home to park it overnight? I've been storing my ancient ten speed in the garage, but the Trek is a bike I actually like and ride.
Should I worry about cold, humidity, varmints? Is it overkill to bring it inside?

In my apartment living room, by the window. Nowhere else to keep it without risking theft. Not a problem, although occasionally I need to wash the wheels after a messy ride before taking it inside. I keep a mop bucket, scrub brush and Dawn dish detergent handy for that.

Cold or varmits are not a problem. Humidity is not a problem unless the garage is in some sort of extreme (it's very unlikely).
The reason to keep the bike inside the house rather than the garage for most people is just a question of theft. It really varies by area though. I've known people to get their bike stolen out of their garage because they left their garage door open "just for a second", I've heard of people driving off and leaving it open by accident, and sometimes thieves will break into a garage overnight.
I couldn't say whether it's worth the extra hassle to bring it inside without knowing where your garage is, your area, etc etc. As long as I have my own garage (it's not a shared garage or something) I leave most of my bikes in the garage, only bringing my super expensive bike ($3,500) inside the house.

I guess I'm really lucky in some aspects. Kids are gone so I converted one bedroom into a bike shop where I work on, build and refurbish bikes. Several are in there now and my Marin commuter lives in the living room by the front door.

I keep mine in the dining room. Of course, it's right near my record collection, so I might have a different kind of dining room than you have. But basically, it's right off of the entry hall so that I can get it out easily. So wherever you keep it, I would advise to keep it someplace near a door so that it's easy to get outside.

When I lived in Atlanta and we had no garage my bikes stayed in the house, just inside the back door.
Now we live in Florida and they stay in the garage. I have two of these — one for each bike. No problems with heat, cold or humidity.

If you Ever open the garage door for any length of time, have the Bikes locked Up in it, so they wont get Stolen.
Worry about Those varmints..

I think we're getting into a lot of speculation there. My assumption on the first one is that it's fringe case where a design flaw in the grease they were using caused the problem. For the second one, grease comes back to normal once it warms up again.

Nothing wrong with the garage. I'm storing a Trek Emonda SLR, Trek Madone 6.7, Trek 8.5DS, Scott CR1, Cervelo P2, Gary Fisher Excal and a Gary Fisher Presidio in mine.. along with my hobby car. Bikes are mine and my sons.

Current daily use bikes live in the garage. That's usually two. Rest normally reside in basement workshop.

I live in an upstairs apartment with no outdoor area to lock up my bike, so mine lives in my living room It's as much a part of my life as anything ever will be, so I have no issue with it being front and center.

Usually, my CAAD sits in the living room, against the bookcase behind our couch. No issues from my wife about this, I clean the tires with a quick wipe down before I roll through the front door after my rides.The garage is not a problem though, as far as extreme temps, never a problem with anything from this issue. My work stand, spares, and tools are there. If I need to work in my bike this is where it is. Besides, the garage already has a full house generator, my Yamaha YZ 425F, our assorted yard tools/yard tractor, and the paints and other home improvement items taking up space. I am not even sure we have parked a car in that place in the 18 years we have lived here. I really need better lighting in there, working on this one.
