Can you ride with both a trailer & panniers?

Afternoon all,

The instructions for my back bicycle rack states that you should not use in conjunction with a bicycle trailer but it seems possible to attach them both to the bicycle.

I was wondering why they mention this & if anyone else rides/has ridden with both panniers/back bike rack and a bicycle trailer attached?

Thanks for your time,

Samuel

I would be concerned about the amount of weight you're going to put on the rear wheel. With the right (strong enough) rear wheel and good brakes, it should be fine.

A quick Google image search shows many people riding with both trailers and panniers.

Yes. Almost all trailer-towers also have pannier racks. I always use a single pannier as my manbag, even when towing.

No, because I don't own a trailer.

I can, have, but am unlikely to do it ever again, mostly because I strongly dislike the riding dynamics of a bike with loaded racks as compared to a loaded trailer. (Burley Flatbed)

I have 2 trailers I can tow with 2 different bikes, The trailers each have their own rear axle hitch .

I was wondering why they mention this & if anyone else rides/has ridden with both panniers/back bike rack and a bicycle trailer attached?
What bike what trailer , how about coughing up some specific details ?

Yea and So you ask a bunch of people that Know nothing about the specifics of your Bike ,
instead of contacting the Dealer and/or distributor.

You were wondering .. So ? what does that have to do with anything strangers
with no clue about your bike and trailer choices can resolve .

It just a CYA thing. You can certainly use both. I pulled a trailer with kids in it for many years and every bike I've owned had a rack on it. I even did a couple of weekend trips with panniers and the kid trailer.

But you should ask yourself why you need both. If you are carrying that much stuff on a bike perhaps you should cut down on the amount of stuff you think you need to carry. Even on a 5 week tour, I wouldn't need the capacity of both a trailer and panniers.
