Yup, but definitely not my first. I've been practicing photography and shooting strictly manual since 2007. My problem is I'm too poor to buy a dSLR. I bought the superzoom back then when I was researching which camera to get and filtered over into reading about photography instead of cameras. Bought the superzoom with manual controls rather than the original point and shoot I was going to get.

I of course outgrew the camera within months, but can't afford a dSLR so that $200 camera was all I had up until lst year when I got pinned up against a fallen tree in the river on the kayak and swamped the boat. Stupid me had the camera in a bag, but the bag was unzipped. Toasted the sensor.

Of course, the very first digital camera I had just happens to be the very first digital camera that came out on the consumer market, the Casio QV-10 which is pictured on the left, all of it's 1/4 megapixel glory, LOL. I still have it and there are still pictures on it from 20 or so years ago that I can't get off because I don't have a cord to get them.



I was lucky to have a very photogenic subject, of which the first of the following netted me $250 (which the subject took for herself and her sister, LOL)

Yes, I'm very pleased with how this thread has taken off. It's like getting cycling-related postcards from everywhere. I wonder why we don't have any international (well, I think Canada is represented here) posts.

How about it? Anyone from Europe, the UK, Australia, Asia? Russia? Abu Dhabi? Central or South America? Africa? (Who did I miss?) Let's see your beautiful countries from behind (handle)bars!

BTW, the only reason I haven't posted recently is because we are enduring another gloom-a-thon here in Minnesota. I won't complain, however, because the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour takes place this weekend; so if we get all of the crap weather out of the way now, maybe it will be pleasant riding around Lake Pepin.

Here are three from the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour. This is an annual event that is intended to expose riders to the kind of cycling they did in England during the 1920s - `30s, and is open to vintage English bikes running Sturmey-Archer internal-gear hubs. The distance traveled depends on which detours you may or may not select, but the most direct route around the lake is 85 miles. The route itself is quite hilly, and my bike weighed over 60 lbs fully loaded.

Sorry about the lack of variety in these images, I got caught up in the riding and took most of my photos at stops. My actual handlebars aren't visible in these shots, as they were taken on the move, with the camera resting against my chest. You can just see the top of my water bottle in two of them.

Although many of the riders showed up dressed in tweeds, the weather was quite cold for such an event. So you see riders here with a mishmash of modern and vintage clothing. When we left Red Wing, Minnesota to cross over into Wisconsin, it was about 36° F, or thereabouts. The sky threatened rain all day, but it never fell.

In the second and third shot, we see Shawn Granton, of the blog "Urban Adventure League" out of Portland, Oregon. His is the bike with the "slow vehicle" triangle on the back. He rides a beautiful and well kitted-out Raleigh Superbe. The tall fellow on the left in the third shot is called "The Vicar", and he figures prominently in the pre- and post-ride ceremonies.

It was a wonderful first tour for me and my Raleigh DL-1 - the weather was much-improved on Sunday - and I will definitely be back next year. I will be peppering other forums with various shots from the `Tour, depending on subject matter, so you can see more if you go to C&V, and "For the love of English 3-speeds".

Sounds like a neat event, too cold for me to enjoy but still sounds like a great ride.
I wonder if they would allow an english style fixed gear, I have just the bike. Prolly too hilly, though.

Thanks! Now I've got to Google Brasilia, because something is tugging at the back of my mind on that... I think I saw the movie "Brazil" a long time ago, but don't remember the particulars.

Anyway, here are a couple shots I took the other day, riding under bridges in Saint Paul, MN.

This one I believe is under Seventh Street (basically Saint Paul's Main Street).



...and this one is under the highway bridges over the trails around Lake Phalen.



And here's a shot of one of our neighborhood streets, riding my French Bike, "Gypsy Bleu".



It was a nice weekend.

I'm harmless, I swear . I've heard that line in a song, but I don't think I know the show you're referring to. On another note, had gone to Albuquerque for a few days to house/pet sit, so of course I took Blue and visited Los Altos. I was there when it first opened, and all these years later I can only do, like, a hair more than I could then, haha .


Earlier this week, took the big wheels out knowing I would be fighting the wind, but not realizing just how dirty it was. T'was a granny gear kind of day.
