Water in both, most of the time. Sometimes I substitute some powder energy stuff my wife bought me, mixed with water. It'll hydrate you and give you a boost, but it tastes like sh**...

I mounted my pump (Topeak Mini Morph) on holes meant for the second bottle cafe. It looks like the pump is part of the bike triangle, making my bike much more beautiful than having another cage.

Practically two bottles is good but has dedtryed thr aesthetic of the bike.

On my commuting bike, the down tube cage holds a battery for my headlamp. I've converted an old water bottle to contain that battery with the cable coming through the water spout...

The seat tube cage contains my water bottle.

Since on both my bike and trike I have a trunk pack, if I think I need extra water, that is what my second bottle has in it. I carry enough parts and tools that I am pretty much assured that I wont have to walk home.

You must have an odd bottle of wine or a special cage.

(shrug)..both of my bikes would be considered vintage and have equally vintage cages..std 750ml bottle seems to fit ok...tight, but ok. Not something I do all the time, but for the occasional picnic it has worked.

Interesting, so do regular cycling bottles fit snugly enough to not fall out.

I have an adjustable bottle cage that will fit a 1.5 liter bottle of water. doesn't show well in the pic, but it is the one on the downtube. It has a thumbwheel to cinch the straps down, it would probably hold a bottle of wine.

Height doesn't always have everything to do with it, here is a pretty small frame with 5 (all factory) waterbottle mounts, hope bconneraz doesn't mind me reposting his pic of his beautiful Cimarron build! :

Most of my rides are over 4 hours. I have little use for a bike that will hold less than two large bottles. I
typically have one century a week or, less miles but as much effort and time in snow and ice. I usually leave the house
with four big bottles. Close to a century I will drink more.

Last Monday I did 83 miles, ending at home with 24 F temperature. I had 7 big bottles. It's as easy to get dehydrated in the cold (24 F), as it is the heat.

Not yet but it's coming. I think that I'm going to cut off an old water bottle to hold a couple of inner tubes and a CO2 inflator. I don't usually need tire levers but, if I do, I'll make do with my QR. Ne4ed to carry 2 inner tubes because my bikes have 2 wheel sizes. Wondering if both inner tubes and the CO2 with 2 or 3 carts will all fit. That will save me having to switch my seat bag so often.

Whew! 5 X 24 = 120 oz = 7.5 lbs. of water. Almost a gallon. No weight weenie there.

On the other hand, think how many inner tubes I could carry on that bike.

I'd love to carry a gallon on the bike. I drink that in 4 hours of work and though it's hotter at work than outside, I'm not elevating my heart rate and moving myself on a vehicle at 16 mph.

With the small frame and sloped top tube, I can only get 1 on the down tube and can't fit a bottle on the seat tube (maybe if it was a really small bottle.) I've done the bottle under the down tube because of the frame of the old suspension mountain bike and that just gets nasty.

Thus, got a rack and a trunk bag so I can carry just as much water. I carry nearly a gallon when I'm going out 4-5 hours on the kayak and drink it all, I could definitely use a gallon if I'm going to be 4 hours on a bike. I drink a lot of water, way more than what is recommended for a normal person.

Water + air on short rides, Water x 2 on long rides.

I also have an item called a Cage Rocket that fits in a bottle cage and is designed to carry spare tools, food, etc. It's a great idea but I never use it because I always carry tools in my seatbag and usually carry two water bottles anyway.

Yup, and if you share a trail with horseback riders, some of that mud isn't mud.

Doesn't have to just be a trail... ever hear of road apples? Amish country around here. Maybe a good reason to add some fenders with additional flaps at the bottom! But yeah not sure if I've ever seen the bottom mounts in use. I think the pic I posted it was just for illustration and not intended to use but you'd have to ask him. I also don't think your going to fit full 24ozers in the double mounts on the down tube, but again not really sure. If I were to utilize the bottom mount I wouldn't drink directly from it, I'd pour it into an empty one that is cleaner.

LMAO. Paved Allegheny River Trail mostly, so no horses when I was riding that mountain bike. Now I ride a crushed limestone trail often and there are horses, dogs, people who let their dogs go right in the middle of the trail and leave it, no, I don't want to use a waterbottle hanging under the down tube
