Water on left fork leg, water on right fork leg, water in first triangle cage, water in second triangle cage. food in the frame bag, tools in the seat bag. Good for 50 miles before a refill, but I sweat a lot and I'm not riding smooth pavement.
If I'm only doing 30 miles or so, just fork leg bottles are full. If I'm pushing it I'll finish both, even on a cool evening.
I need to get a cage for the downtube mount, the front triangle cage is sort of a PITA with the frame bag installed. I'm also exploring how much I like a hydration bladder in the frame bag.

What is this two bottle cage nonsense??? My Fuji came with none!!! Initially, I added a handlebar-mounted ALE' cage (now sold to another BF forum member), and later mounted a clamp-on single cage to the downtube. In my normal commuting guise, that water bottle just goes along for the ride -- two pounds of dead weight. I've gone an entire season without ever drinking a drop from the bottle, although I'll sometimes use it to spray myself to help cool off a bit. If I go on longer rides, I'll stop at a convenience store along the way for a cold bottle of water. Charity rides have enough rest stops with refreshments provided. So why carry around the weight???

I used to use one of these, but on longer rides when a second water bottle is necessary, it's pretty annoying moving all the crap out from this container,
so I gave up and now always use a saddle bag.
Edit: gerbil rides with me in rear jersey middle pocket.

on my commuting bike I carry one water bottle and used to carry my flat fixing stuff but I got a pump and did not want to mount to the frame so I took the cage off.
on my road bike I Carried water in one and cytomax or Nuun in the other for longer rides.

There's a lot of people who wont buy bottled water. I'm one of them. Not only for environmental reasons but if you're on a 4 month long tour and only buy one bottle a day, you're looking at an additional $120. It's likely you're buying many more than that on a long tour.

95% of my riding is my 12.5-mile each-way commute. Counting stops for traffic lights, that's about 45 minutes, door to door, and in rush hour traffic. A gulp of water can wait till I get to my destination.
The other 5% of my riding is the one or two times per month when I can get away from the household chores for an afternoon. Let's call it a three hour ride. Maybe 40 miles.
I did 'chuck it all' for a few weeks back in the late '70s - rode from Cleveland OH to Madison WI and back, with a few 100-plus mile days. That one was right around 1100 miles round trip, and I only carried one water bottle. I refilled it from garden hoses, roadside rest stop fountains, and fast food joints, diners and 'greasy spoons' along the way. Most people along the way were very gracious when I asked for a water refill. If not, just ride on down the road and ask someone else.

I carry a first aid kit in mine & keep tools, tubes, etc in a saddle bag. Water bottle or Gatorade in the second cage. For longer rides I've found if I don't use a Camelbak I won't drink enough.

Same here. I use a Camelbak on all my tours. It doubles as my day bag as well. Keys, wallet, phone etc inside of it. The water bottles I carry are mainly for emergencies and I only go to them when my Camelbak is empty.

I have powerade/gatorade in 1 and mio in 2nd. I lost the screws to hold on the cages so i have them on with hose clamps.
I wish i had a 3rd cage but i dont know where id put it.

I usually carry two water bottles. On my usual early morning 10-or-so mile runs, I'm not out long enough to need a second bottle or anything else, so the second cage is empty. On longer runs, especially during the heat of the day, I need both bottles.

I have three cages. Both of the ones on the down tube (one on top, one on bottom) carry water bottles. The one on the seat tube carries my bear spray in the kozee, pictured below. This is only when I'm on tour. I carry it for protection against dogs as well. If I'm riding local the bottom down tube cage remains empty.

The other photo showing the three cages is my bike. I didn't have mounts on the bottom of my down tube so I used 6 zip ties to hold it on. Hasn't failed me yet.
