Do you carry anything else in your 2nd bottle cage?
Assuming you have two with water in one. I know some always pack 2 water bottles, but for those that don't, do you use the 2nd for something else in an old bottle? Tools, candy bars, pet gerbil?

I have an Abus Bordo folding lock, in it's pouch, on the water bottle boss pair,
On the set on the top tube of my Bike Friday, instead of a bottle cage.

Used to have a multitool, couple of CO2 cartridges, levers, etc, in a water bottle. I'd move it between bikes. With only one bike, it's easier to carry that stuff in a saddle bag.

Used to carry a gerbil, but on a longish ride his grip slipped ... even a $200 Mips helmet wouldn't have helped.

My little variation, I have the bottle cage wrapped in a kind of webbing fabric to hold loose stuff when there's no bottle there. It doesn't bounce out.

I have two bottle mounts in the main triangle, with a water bottle in one and my Bordo folding lock attached to the other. I have another water bottle on the lower mounting position, with a spare inner tube, patch kit, and tools in it. I have another water bottle holder on my right fork and when I need to carry two water bottles, that's the one I use for the second.

On my touring bike I usually have two with water and a third with fuel (at least when touring). On my road bike I only have one cage and that gets water (the second set of braze ons aren't properly spaced) and on my fixed gear I have one water bottle cage and one little bag which I keep tools and spare tube in (it was super cheap and I actually find it quite useful now that I have a different commute)

Am I the only average height person riding a bike? So jealous of you folk with another cage mounted on the seat post. I can't fit another bottle there. I would drink 2 bottles even on an hour ride if I had another cage. I drink a lot of water.

I have three cages. Both of the ones on the down tube (one on top, one on bottom) carry water bottles. The one on the seat tube carries my bear spray in the kozee, pictured below. This is only when I'm on tour. I carry it for protection against dogs as well. If I'm riding local the bottom down tube cage remains empty.
The photo of the bear spray kozee isn't my bike but a generic photo from REI showing what the bear spray kozee is.
The other photo showing the three cages is my bike. I didn't have mounts on the bottom of my down tube so I used 6 zip ties to hold it on. Hasn't failed me yet.
