Need recommendations on tires
Hello all!
I have a 2013 Bolinas Ridge 29er and am looking to replace the large nubby tires with a street tire, since I ride on the street 90% of the time. I'm not sure what to get or even where to begin looking. I want to do some research before asking my LBS since it is a good trip there and I don't have free time during the day to call them. The tires are 29 X 22 Geax Sanguaro. The rim is Alex TD25 29-Inch, Double Wall. What would be a good solid street tire? I'm also a Clydesdale at 270#, so I also need a tough tire. Do you all have any suggestions? |
I'd suggest looking at Schwalbe Big Apples. They roll very well, are durable, comfy, and reliable performers. I like the reflective sidewall option, but they look cool no matter what.

"29 inch" tires are the same diameter as 700c, so any moderately wide 700c tire (say maybe 32 mm and up) would work as well, giving you more options. The Schwalbe Big Apples chaadster mentioned have a good reputation. The Panaracer T-Serv is another tire that may be worth considering. The eBay seller Wheel & Sprocket is selling them in 700c x 35 for $28.50 with free shipping.

+1 on the Big Apples. My bike has Big Apples, and they make the commute to work (~4 miles each way on some badly paved streets) pretty tolerable. Well, except for the part where I have to work.
Seriously, though, I don't fear small potholes or speed bumps much with these tires; though I don't go out of my way to hit the potholes. :) |
There is a Clydesdale forum, why not ask there?
