My Search for a Touring Bike Ended Yesterday

I have been wanting to get a proper touring bike and have been researching them for a while, finally narrowing down to three. Decided on the Trek 520 and brought it home yesterday. Rode it a few miles today and so far I am very happy with it. It rode beautifully. Now for some Ortlieb Panniers and I will be commuting on it, cannot wait.

Classy. A Brooks saddle would compliment the hood covers nicely.

Do your winged shoes make you pedal faster?

Load it up with front and rear panniers and trunk rack and ride it uphill into 15-20 mph head winds. Let me know how it does. Because after Sunday's ride, that's my new standard for surviving an otherwise beautiful day.

Funny, but I thought the same thing when I first saw the picture. In my mind though I added "Tan" http://www.brooksengland.com/images/...iddle_jc95.jpg

Tried and true. You simply can't go wrong with the Trek 520. What kind of touring do you want to do?

Forget the Brooks saddle -- the one that comes with the 520 is just fine by my lights. But you will want fenders.

One step ahead my friend. I have a Brooks saddle on my now, other bike and most definitely will be transferring it as soon as I get bags on it for my commutes to work, although it is black. The saddle that came with the 520 is ok, but not nearly as comfortable as my Brooks and was the reason I did not log more miles yesterday.

Yes it has been around forever and indeed tried and true. I hope to do some light touring, long day and a couple nights at best.
