Yesterday's weather was pretty good -- a few buddies and I met up for an informal ride and I put in 41 miles. Today was sprinkly throughout and I had some stuff to do, so I only got in 6.

Nice day in Mpls. 20 miles with my daughter on the Cedar Lake Trail, south along the river to Bohemian Flats and back. Headwind was so strong we had to pedal downhill.

Day 9: short ride to the store for wine and coffee; but I forgot my wallet. Ended up driving back since it was getting late and I was tired.
Day 10: Got my Mondonico out for the first ride of the year, and it was a GREAT ride, right up to the last 2 blocks. I went out for 21 miles, climbing many of the hills in my neighborhood. I got a large number of PRs on Strava (fast & fun ride). Here's the high-point in my county:
However, 2 blocks from home, some debris got into my rear derailleur and did this:
Now I will be looking for a local frame builder to replace the drop-out, a painter, new Campy derailleur, and new stickers. Summer project.

Last week's 30cm/12" snow started to melt and freeze and melt and freeze over the weekend and continues to do so until later this week. I went out for a ride on Friday (a very short 0.5km up and down the street) and slipped several times on the ice so I didn't ride on Saturday, Sunday or Monday but the conditions are better now and with above-freezing highs during the days and at or slightly below freezing nights, I feel comfortable back on the bike again, as I did today. So, I won't be doing 30 days this month but I think I'm good for 27 and I'm satisfied with that. 27 cycling days in a month could very well be a record for me so that's not so bad.
I'll have another go at 30 days in June for the Great Cycling Challenge.
Keep riding everyone!!

Day 11: Took the Felt out for a nondescript 18 mile ride.
Day 12: Took the Kona for a 30 miles rail-trail ride to Victoria, and rode in-and-out of pelting ice/snow. I'm still holding on to hope that Spring will come to Minnesota.

Here's hoping! Meanwhile, in Iowa, they're forecasting above-freezing temps for the foreseeable future.

Went for a nice afternoon ride yesterday after work (my wife was feeling a bit under the weather so I drove her in and kept the car to take her home after our work day). I volunteered to work on the Bike Rack map that our local cycling organization (not a team, an organization to encourage cycling and cycling infrastructure) had been working on so I went around a few streets to see if I could find any more bike racks outside businesses that could benefit from them (coffee shops, small strip malls, grocery stores). Didn't find any on this trip but I'll continue to make more and more trips in different directions to search for and hopefully find some that can be added to the map. The other part of this that will come a bit later is to contact the business or building owners and encourage them to add a set of bike racks outside their businesses (the letter might even include a map of their region in which, hopefully, to show that other neighbouring and similar businesses do have racks).
Have a great day people!!

Day 13: Took my first ride with a new team, I've never trained with a team, so lots to learn. It was the hillz ride on a warm/sunny evening, and I love climbs, so I was excited. However, I have a hot-and-cold relationship with descents. And damn it, if my brain didn't started overthinking the long descent over the High Bridge (St Paul). Not a steep descent and straight as an arrow, but I'm dragging the brakes the whole way down.... WTF?!?!
Day 14: Need to clear the demons outa my head, so I took my old commuting route I've ridden for years. It's hilly and allows me to get lots of speed. It was a great, fast ride and felt great. Plus I got a Strava KOM on a segment I've ridden hundreds of times (special thanks to the tailwind). Still need to work on descending, but happy to make progress.

I skipped the long-sleeved merino jersey I usually wear as a baselayer this morning, and am pretty sure that the full-length tights will be too warm on the way home. Good problem to have.

Day 15: played hookie 'cause it was so nice out. Lisa and I did a day-long 30 mile ride, stopping at Sea Salt for lunch and beers. Also found our kid at Lyn-Lake Brewery for some more beer.
Day 16: Short ride to dump old tech/electronics. B.O.B. was past his weight-limit with 2 laptops, one boat anchor desktop, one monitor, one TiVo, a couple routers, and tons of cables
Day 17: Short ride to check out construction near my house. There is a major North-South county road closed for a new bridge over a rail line. All the detour traffic comes up our road, so I'm extra interested to see when they will be done. Looks like a lot of work to do, rail is still on the shoofly (detour) and no tracks laid in the new channel.

Day 18, I had work to do in town and needed to take allot of things for the job I ws doing so I missed riidng my bike for my commute. My wife and I got home at the same time so before supper we went for a 13 mile ride (we did 22 miles yesterday and she was a little fried today). It was over 80 F here today, a little head wind the whole ride, but what a nice day and nice ride to end it!

I am pleased to say that with tomorrow's recreational ride, I will have done 26 of the 30 days: 2 of the days I was wimpy and 2 of the days had tons of snow and ice and although I could have ridden to the end of the driveway and back, I didn't think that would have been sufficient to qualify. I'm happy with 26 and have a target for next year.

I have a week of updates....
Day 23 - Ride with Lisa on the Dakota Trail, her longest ride of 2016
Day 24 - Quick ride in the neighborhood
Day 25 - Took my fatbike to a nearby park for some trail riding.
Day 26 - Play soccer for the first time in a couple years, then went for a quick ride.
Day 27 - Planned to ride a century, but my legs hated me from soccer and the wind was brutal. Finally (thankfully) the rain came in early and I headed home. Finished the ride with 75 miles.
Day 28 - Took a day off the bike, my legs were still very angry and it was just nasty out with 40F and rain/sleet throughout the day.
Day 29 - Quick ride to pick up a U Haul to help the kid with her move today.

Getting older and slower!
I finished, 30 in 30, but won't do it again. At 71 y/o I need to either take a day or two off a week or learn how to do recovery rides. (I have trouble not doing intervals when I ride solo.)
