help a newbie
hey guys, my name is Eddie and I'm from NYC. A little while back I started looking into purchasing a new bike and came across a local store last weekend that has this Cannondale on sale for about $1400. I read a lot about mountain bikes and looked into many different variants. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger but wanted to see some more opinions from people that know the industry much better then me. Is it worth it? are there better options for the price? thanks in advance.

That's a great bike for a beginner and something you can grow into with experience riding it.
I was going to suggest something in a hardtail for you, but that bike is good and so is the price.
Enjoy and let me know if you ever ride upstate, near Newburg, Middletown or Ellenville. Those are places that I ride and I could show you around

Good components all down the line. It's a pretty darn tootin' bike, so you seem to know just what you want. Have them throw in some nice pedals for free. Buy a good lock (or two) and go jump off some walls!

Here are the complete specs on the bike listed below. I'm surprised to see some entry level drive components used on a bike with and MSRP this high. The Shimano Alivo and Sunrace parts are entry level. Work OK but I'm still surprised. Shimano Deore is a step up for sure. Is there a reason why you have chosen a fully suspended MTB? I wasn't aware of MTB trails and much off road riding in NYC. At least the front suspension comes with lockouts so you can disable it when you don't need to use it - robs some of the power used to propel the bike if it didn't. My favorite old MTB (I own two very old MTBs) for riding the roads is a Cannondale SM800 circa 1993 which is very light and has no suspension. I wouldn't trade it for anything like the one you are considering. It is last year's model and discontinued so be very sure the store has the frame size you need. Don't accept one that is too small or too big if your size is no longer available.
