Saw my old bike today...

As I was heading to dialysis, as I turned into the medical office park, I saw my old bike exiting-mid 80's Cannondale heavy touring bike, dark blue, front and rear racks, fenders, Brooks B66 saddle, and those sweet Suntour XC index shifters on bar-end pods, half-step+granny gearing, Nitto touring bars, v-brakes. Man, that was one hell of a bike! It was my main transportation mode through the last 2.5 years of engineering school, and was probably the best bike I owned.

I sold it 3 years ago, because between having no time, failing health, and no money, I neither needed or used a fully-equipped touring bike any more. I hated to sell it, but it was wasting space, and, besides, I needed the money. Since then, my energy has returned, and I've started riding again. After 6 months, I decided that I needed another 'dale in my life, so I went out and found a nice mid-80's C'dale road bike.

That is great you saw your old bike. I don't have that feeling with any bikes, but I do with some car's I've had. No use, like you said, and I would have loved to have kept them just because we were old friends. =)

I had a bare frame that I bought from a guy a while ago. Then one afternoon as I was shopping, he stopped me riding the bike, and seemed happy to see it built up and in use, even if it was bastardized a bit.

I stripped off the rear rack and campus pedals from my rain/winter bike the other day. Then I carefully washed and lubed the bike. The bike has one little nick in the paint on the top tube, which I touched-up with a tiny amount of fingernail polish. I even took pictures for the Craigslist post.

I've been looking at those disc brakes on those new bikes at the LBS.

It's a 2010 Fuji I bought new. I had about 4 seasons or 8K miles on it before I bought another bike. The bike never quite fit me right... yet I seem to have become attached to it.

For quite a few years I had a Bianchi Squadra (Columbus SL tubing) that I rode from ME to CT once and also on a 6-day holiday in Puerto Rico. After an 8 yr. layoff from cycling I got back into it. Things had changed and I wanted a new bike. So, I sold my Squadra to a local bike shop and bought a Trek/LeMond. About 5 yrs. ago a guy showed up at my clubs' Saturday rides with my Squadra. It was great to see that bike again and, although I missed it, it was nice to see someone who appreciated it. Later I found that he and I shared the same birthday. For his birthday I gave him a pic of (now) his bike at El Junque in Puerto Rico.

At least someone was enjoying it instead of "wasting space". I feel the same way about my old hybrid I just sold. I kind of miss it, but since I bought a new hybrid and have a road bike too it was just going to sit around unused.
