Epididymitis

I just returned from my doctor and he told me that the intense pain I am experiencing is due to epididymitis. I am age 62 and I have 2 century rides coming this May.(22,29) My question is, would purchasing a split seat prevent this form occurring again? Also, I do wear bike shorts, always have. Finally could this of been caused by improper fitting of my bike?

I had that at one point and was told it was something of an... "overuse injury." I wouldn't think it would be a problem if the symptoms had subsided by then. An NSAID probably wouldn't hurt day-of.

Try an ISM seat. I know I like mine after I got used to it.

I experienced a great deal of discomfort in the groin until I QUIT wearing spandex shorts. Now, unless I am riding over 30 miles (which I hardly ever do any more) I just put on a comfortable pair of shorts .

What was the cause? Infection? Other urologic problems? If the cause wasn't the seat, a new seat won't prevent it. I would also think any bike seat would be painful until it resolves?

Cycling and bike fit isn't in the top five causes that Dr. Google gives.

Never heard of it so I looked it up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epididymitis

Never a problem for me.. Off hand seeing the part affected as described

pour icewater on your scrotum so it contracts* ,

go commando and wear a Kilt?

* Temperature sensitive, reflex.

A friend of mine suffered from this and a Selle SMP split nose down saddle fixed it for him.

Not if it's being caused by something like chlamydia or one of the other possible "internal" causes. Have those been definitively ruled out?

I have two ISM saddles and they are the most comfortable saddles I have ever owned both in terms of sit bone comfort and franks, beans and taint comfort. Please excuse my technical medical terminology.
