Where a Bicycle Ride Can Lead ...

April 29, 1990 ... I decided to start cycling "seriously" (avidly, keenly, with great enthusiasm), and did my first ride in years.

August 2003 ... I rode a cycling event in France called the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200K. At the last control of the ride, an Australian cyclist called out my online name, and I went over and talked to him for a little while. His name was Rowan.

August 2008 ... Rowan and I were married in Canada, in Jasper, immediately after cycling a century (100 miles) through the Canadian Rockies.

June 2009 ... I moved to Australia to live with Rowan.

April 29, 2016 ... I became an Australian Citizen.

Congratulations on your citizenship, and your relationship.
I met my current wife (we are both recycled) on a one day bike tour in July 2000. A couple I am friends with used to operate a day tour locally, and one day they asked me if I would come and ride with them as they had booked a group of women for a tour, but they had to back out as they had a funeral to attend.
They had booked another single woman to ride with the group, and when the others backed out, rather than cancel, they called around for a couple of friends to flesh out the ride.
I went, we met, married almost three years later, happy ever after. The end.

Congratulations! Australia is a great place! I really enjoyed the people and the few places I got to visit. Always wished for more!

WTG!
My wife and I both biked to work at the same hospital and when we met at a party we talked about bicycling. That was in 1978. Still biking together. And talking about bicycling.

I met my wife locking up our bikes, before class, at the University.
Our dates for the first few years were totally cycling related.
She doesn't cycle much anymore. But she gets it.
Congrats!

Cheers everyone. It's been a pretty good journey so far. Lots of bicycling in various parts of the world, and a fairly comfortable place where we are at the moment. But there are still plenty of places to go, things to do, people to meet... bikes to ride.

That's very romantic, in an athletic kind of way. Rowan is a very fine name. There is a very famous (if under-stated) actor with the first name of Rowan. Perhaps you've heard of him. Rowan Atkinson.
