Ride Of Silence
I'm fairly new here...
Do you folks support / ride the Ride of Silence?
I had a friend that was taken out by a young guy-driver that dropped is cell phone...
The rides are short, but it raises awareness.

When I worked for the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition I did the ride every May. We did part of our ride down Peachtree Street thru downtown Atlanta at rush hour.
I now live in Florida and the start of the closest ride is over 30 miles away.
The rides do raise awareness.

Our club is doing this ride with local PD support. Only 8 miles, but it definitely raises awareness.

I will ride in our town's RoS this year after missing the last 3. We had about 20 riders the last time I was there.

Our town's ROS is coming up. It'll probably attract 100 or more riders, in part because the mayor is an avid cyclist who sponsors or supports many cycling events.
Reminds me, I need to get both black and red arm bands. I haven't been hit since I resumed cycling last year (although I've had a couple of close calls, including a few nights ago). But I was hit several times 30 years ago while cycle commuting -- without serious injuries, fortunately.

Regrettably, we have far too many Ghost bikes around here. Some people think they're just creepy. Personally, I like them a lot as an appropriate and sobering reminder. With all of the people texting and driving I see it probably doesn't affect the driving public at all. But, it keeps me vigilant on the road.
I can't speak about the Ride of Silence. Maybe they get driver's attention better than Ghost Bikes? I dunno.

I have done the Philly one several times. It always amazes me how some people don't have the discipline to keep their mouths shut for 8 miles.

Our bike club here in Lincoln has done the ROS for several years running, and I assume we will again this year. If you can get some media attention, I feel it is a good thing.

Ride of Silence - Seattle
hoping there are bicycles in some afterlife, but not counting on it. Time to ride.
