Which bike lock should I get?? Abus Bordo 6500 or Kryptonite New York Mini?
I'm torn between the two. I would like the bordo 6500 but question its strength and reliability. I like the new york mini because it gives less room for thieves to work with but since its a popular type of lock, thieves are used to it. Hmm...
Any insight to these locks?
Here's the Abus: Amazon.com : ABUS 6500 Folding Link Key Lock, Black, 85cm : Bike Locks : Sports & Outdoors
Here's the Kryptonite: Amazon.com : Kryptonite 997986 Black 18mm New York Fahgettaboudit U-Lock : Bike U Locks : Sports & Outdoors

I have had the Granit 85 cm folding lock for 3 years now, including a tour in SE Asia. Very strong and usable lock. Seldom can't find something it won't go around, up to about 6" with the bike tube tight. It can be fidgiddy to get the top and link to square up and insert fully so the key will turn, when things are tight. I'm pretty sure it is more versatile than a U lock, but never used them. I made a CF holster for mine, it goes behind my seat tube. Really handy.

My opinion is that the 'NY' lock is more secure, but the Abus is more versatile. If you live in a high risk area, maybe the NY lock would be worth it, but otherwise I think the more versatile lock would be secure enough and give you more locking options.

Obviously it works best as a lock used to lock your rear wheel to your frame, but someone in theory could carry your bike away still or put it into a van or other vehicle.
The Abus 6500 gives you more options to lock your bike to a fixed object and whilst it is pretty tough, it might be able to be broken with a large bolt cutter.
A portable grinder will take 30secs or less to get through the Abus 6500, but take nearly 4 minutes to get through the two shackle bolts it would need to go through, to break the NY Fahgettaboudit.
One option that is almost as versatile as the Abus 6500 and almost as tough as the NY Fahgettaboudit is the Abus Granit X Plus 54 or 540 in 300mm length.
The Abus Granit X Plus 54 is at least 300 to 400grams lighter than the NY Fahgettaboudit.
Another option you could consider instead of the NY Fahgettaboudit is the Abus Granit X-Plus 54 Mini.
It offers no more versatility than the NY Fahgettaboudit, is almost as tough, and weighs 700 to 800grams less.

I own four of the NY Fahgettaboudit locks so obviously I like them. My only problem sometimes is it isn't long enough to lock the bike to the immovable object but I eventually find a way or find another spot to lock my bke. As Colonel Sanders (the member, not the American icon) says, it is highly unlikely that a thief will cut through the shackle twice. Most likely if they are to cut they cut the object first. I have been thinking of trying the Abus lock for use with my Brompton when I have to leave it outside. I think they are both great locks with different attributes. I am sure you would be happy with either one.
