Bike Helmet Pads -

Hi,m does anyone have a source, or idea on how to replace helmet pads? Mine are held in place with velcro, but haven't been able to find any decent material to use. Appreciate any info!

Some brands sell replacements pads, like Bontrager and Nutcase, so try asking your LBS if they carry any. The Nutcase are my favorite because they come in different thickness and are very versatile: we used my set on my SO's helmet (different brand that didn't offer replacements) and after some tweaking we could make them fit. I've also used Nutcase pads on my Bontrager helmet for a better fit.

You might even be able to email/call the manufacturer or your helmet and get some free replacement pads.

Also, you might even be able to pull out the current ones and wash them. I usually just take my helmet into the shower with me once a week or so and give it a good soaking.

Bell/Giro will give them to you for free

The smart move is to just chuck the helmet altogether. It doesn't do anything more than a baseball cap to protect you, and is less than useless in a crash that might actually damage your head.

HAHA !! Thats really some major misinformation, if you're trying to be funny, you failed. I can say for 100% certainty that my helmet saved me from serious head injury or even death just 5 weeks ago. Joke all you want about biking, but safety shouldn't be one of them.

Hangout here long enough and you'll understand the joke.

Right, of course it did. As a matter of fact, there would hardly be any cyclists living today if that story were true, because it happens to thousands of cyclists daily. In fact, helmets saving cyclist lives occurs at a frequency greater than cycling crashes themselves. It's an absolute miracle, and you go right on believing that 1 inch of beer-cooler styrofoam saved your all-too-soft noggin.

Go to a grocery store. Buy two melons. Return home. Place baseball cap on one melon and ape the cap in place. Drop baseball hat covered melon from eight feet so that the baseball cap hits first. Strap helmet over melon and drop helmet covered melon from eight feet so the helmet hits the pavemet first. Notice any difference between the melons after those impacts? When I did this as demonstrations the melons without the helmet all split open.

Cheers

I had to pay for my Bell pads when I contacted them two years ago for a replacement set.

Your example is just ridiculous. Watermelon rinds don't even faintly resemble human skulls, in structure or strength. Watermelon fruit certainly does not resemble brains, except perhaps yours.

A bit harsh and not necessary.
