General question for you

Is everyone here ready for summer or are you dreading it ? I tell you, here in the south where I live it gets hot and steamy so if cycling or running you get it done early or in the evening,,,,,,

pseudoware 05-26-16 04:10 PM

I live in California, near the coast. Summer is the best damn time of year, here. :)

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 04:13 PM

That's what I hear, you got it made,,,,,, nice tan........

Its been raining the past two months and in the 50-60's, nearly every day, yet the past couple days and the next couple weeks to come are in the high 80's! Last summer wasnt so bad, so im hoping for a similar summer this year. Its just very very humid alot where I live and its hard to breathe in that kind of heat lol I usually go out early in the morning between 8am-12/1pm then go out again around 5pm-8pm. The days reach their highest temp between 3-4pm and start to cool around 5pm.

I go out twice a day when my son is with me, and once a day if im going alone. Usually in the evening unless iv woken early enough.

When i used to commute in Florida, the real hardship was cars in traffic---not just the amazingly idiocv of the drivers, but the tremendous amount of heat each vehicle throws. Any rides on busy roads or during rush hour, and especially at intersections, where cars sit and bake the pavement for a while, then the sun bakes the pavement, then the cars again ... Drivers sit scowling in their air conditioned cabins on leather sofas listening to stereos better than I have at home, hating me for riding, while I sit next the their cars in 135-degree heat, with heat baking off the pavement, radiating from the cars, with the sun beating down, sweat gushing off my head and body .... but I am smiling and they are not. Go figure.

Oh my god! I love that.

Motorists are always so miserable but us poor cyclists are happy. Go figure indeed.

Out here in dry, high altitude, thin air of Colorado the sun shines bright and hot; but the shade is always cool. I've taken to wearing loose, long sleeve cotton shirts in the summer and it's delightful...as long as I can keep my speed up.

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 05:25 PM

I think we're in the same region,,,

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 05:29 PM

I figure,,, I feel the same weather I'm on my bike or my motorcycle,,

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 05:39 PM

I think wearing long sleeves in the summer Sun is good idea,,,

Machka 05-26-16 05:44 PM

I'm always ready for summer ... but it will officially be winter this coming Wednesday, so summer is a long way away.

It sure beats wearing sunscreen, in my opinion. Lightweight, long sleeve shirts made from sun protective fabric are my shirts of choice in the summer. (I question the need for the fabric to be sun protective, but that's what my favorite summer shirts are made from.)

Summer here in Tokyo is hot, humid, and noisy. And recently the city is overrun with tourists, which makes the popular summer places more overcrowded than they usually are. Cycling nowadays for me is not about fitness or speed, but simply getting around town. With Tokyo traffic, and traffic lights beyond count, they only way I can ride any considerable distance without stopping is to use my rollers on the patio.

I am looking forward to the fall, we have rented a home on Hawaii's north shore for two weeks. I'll so some cycling and surfing, and a lot of relaxing.

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 06:43 PM

What makes it. noisy?? The tourists??

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 06:46 PM

Machca winter means cold or a rainy season?

BlazingPedals 05-26-16 06:51 PM

Just about 2 weeks ago, it snowed here. What's wrong with summer (and when will it get here?)

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 07:14 PM

Blazing you have to look for a more tropical location,,,

I'm totally ready for summer. I've been riding around 45 miles daily since Feb, and each week it gets warmer. I plan on doing a few solo centuries this summer, and my wife will accompany me on many of the 40+ milers we always do. I love the feeling of riding in 90 degrees. :)

rydabent 05-26-16 07:40 PM

Summer is fantastic!!!!!!

Fastfingaz 05-26-16 07:51 PM

I too love the hot months, with day lite savings time its great, then making to the beach that's extra special,,, more ways then one.

JanMM 05-26-16 08:08 PM

Gawdawful heat and humidity are much preferable to cold weather.

morfeeis 05-26-16 08:30 PM

Here in AZ we get eight months of summer, june through October is the season i like to call flaming fire breath of hell. 90 by 7am so with this being my first cycling season if i dont get out by 4-5 am im not riding that day..

canklecat 05-26-16 09:14 PM

Looking forward to the summer here in Texas. Spring and fall weather is unpredictable with frequent t-storm forecasts that don't always pan out. I like being able to hop on the bike without needing to worry about anything other than the temperature. I just ride earlier, later, or slower if it's near midday.

jon c. 05-26-16 09:25 PM

Still only in the high 80s here in north Florida and not all that humid. I look forward to the first really hot day. 95+ with similar humidity is a typical summer day here and I love it. The only downside of summer is you can't avoid pop up thunderstorms. This time of year if the radar is clear it isn't likely to rain. In the summer, small thunderstorms come out of nowhere. But I love riding in stultifying heat.

DrIsotope 05-26-16 09:28 PM

Inland SoCal here, end of June through the end of September, better be on the road before 7am and off of it before 10am, or face the blazing consequences. Nothing quite like 100º by 9am. But at least we don't have snow.

The weather "people" say the El Nino effect is going to persist, and this will be the coolest summer in like 60 years or some such nonsense. I'll believe it when I see it.
