The issue isn't finding five minutes to cram some food in my face, the issue is whether that food will help, hinder, or not affect my ride.
The OP seems not to need to eat to do 35 miles at 17 mph, so good for him to learn that about himself.
No one is attacking the idea of eating first ... and obviously one can eat a couple Powerbars or something While Riding so time is not the deciding factor. (Shoot, the pros eat whole meals during their stages.) The question is whether it is required.
The answer is: Yes. if the Bike Diet Police catch you riding without eating breakfast---at Any hour of the day---they will do ... whatever it is an imaginary law enforcement body would do. Beware.

Breakfast is required if you are hungry and best done in the morning. Dinner is another required meal if you are hungry and best done in the evening.
Did this really need to be explained?
Of course you can ignore the simplicity of eating a proper meal when hungry and ridiculously overthink the advice of strangers as it pertains to how your unique body operates...

I have a similar schedule. I ride for an hour, rest at the beach for a few minutes watching the sun rise and then ride again until about 7:30. A second cup of coffee and a shower before booting the laptop for work. I've followed that pattern for so long I couldn't imagine not doing it.
Sounds like a great way to start your day.

Got out yesterday at 3:15AM for 50 miles. First 35 of the 50 at 20.8mph average. Ate a 1/2 banana/peanut butter, Pop Tart, some raisins brought a dill pickle slice, e-gel, Ritz/peanut butter with me. Got back home, showered, changed kit, had some yogurt/blueberries/cinnamon, pickle slice, raisins other 1/2 banana/peanut butter. Back out at 7:45AM for 90 miles more took along pickle slice, Ritz/peanut butter, e-gels......the ride was a group ride keeping speed at 19/21 mph no drop.
Some need not eat before a ride, some wolf down a mega meal. What Ever Floats Your Boat I am 65yo and need to munch on something before heading out, 35 years ago I didn't need to eat before I left the house but always brought a banana and some crackers/peanut butter, M&Ms.

I'm an early riser and am usually on the bike around sunrise, I average about 1:45-2 hours ride. I don't eat breakfast that early but I almost always put down a Cliff bar in the middle of the ride. I eat breakfast after I get home and take a shower.
If I plan in doing a 100K or more which is usually Saturday I'll eat first of course.

Feels great! Thanks
As I see it ... what you are doing works for you. You have dropped 65 pounds in 11 months. You ride at a pretty good pace and do a good distance---you are obviously pretty healthy. Congratulations. You are doing better than I so far. How does it feel to suddenly become a role model? [/QUOTE]
