Celebration or Warning?

1 Attachment(s)
Saw this at the bus station in downtown Colorado Springs this morning. I'm sure it's intended as a celebration of bicycles; but somehow I think it may also serve as a warning do not leave bikes unattended, unlocked or locked where they're not supposed to be.;)

It's nothing more than a piece of art.

I think it's kinda cool. You can bet that the "artist" didn't buy and dismantle a pile of bikes in good condition for something like this. Much more likely that the parts were scrounged from a heap of garbage on its way to the dump, or (hopefully?) the recycler.

Agreed. It's art. Not sure how it could be taken as a warning about anything.

I believe the OP was being sarcastic.

That you had to clear that up is more of a warning.;)

I wish I were an artist. Just weld a bunch of scrap metal together and call it a sculpture. Then get a check from the government.

I gotta remember; sarcasm and or humor is very tough to convey on the web...

So are the cones part of the piece?

FBinNY 06-04-16 02:45 PM

I have to think that you're someone for whom the proverbial glass is half full.

I don't see any reason to draw a negative conclusion from this "junk sculpture".

Are the traffic cones part of the sculpture?

Fort Worth has a similar bit of sculpture that baffles some viewers. It's four twisted steel beams in front of the post office in the museum and cultural district (that big starfish intersection of Camp Bowie, University and 7th).

It looks like deliberate abstract sculpture, and was reshaped a bit to improve the aesthetics. But it began as supports for a large billboard that was twisted out of shape by a tornado that ripped through the area in 2000.
