Hi,

I am planning to buy a Schwinn Mirada bike from craigslist for 180$. Owner says it was not departmental version of Mirada and he bought it in 2005 from a bike shop. As far as I can see from the web , this model belonged to 80 and 90's. Does anyone know if these bikes were sold in 2005?

If something may go wrong can we get parts easily for this model?

Appreciate your help, this is my first bike buying experience so any help would be good.

I thought by 2005 Schwinn was being sold through big box stores. I could be wrong. If its really nice I wouldn't pay more than 125.00 Hope you find a great bike for a good price.

Nothing impressive about the bike. $180 seems kinda high to me.

Looking at the pictures there are various clues about both age and original price. The SIS thumb shifters and cantilever brakes put the age of the bike much earlier than 2005 by at least 10 years. The rear derailleur hanger is a clue as to quality, it is attached to the derailleur, not the frame making this a low end bike not a higher end model. This is basically the sort of bike you could buy at a garage sale for $50. Look also at the steel seatpost, the same as what you would expect to find today on a cheap department store bike

Heads up, I just bought one of these yesterday for waaay less than that, very plainly labeled as having originated from a local bike shop, and very plainly marked "Made in China". The LBS in question, though out of business since 2014, never carried the big box retail model bikes. That having been said age of the bike seems to fit and my guess is that maybe they did a limited model relaunch through specialty bike shops in or sometime around 2005? Rust presence aside, the bike definitely doesn't seem like the typical el-cheapo build quality I'm use to seeing in a Chinese bicycle, so again suggests there were somewhat better quality standards in place for this model. Will post a pic or two later as the "Mirada" line looks overly complicated what with their having been both hybrid and MTB models over the years.

Still, wouldn't advise anyone paying over a hundred for one of these. as much nicer bicycles can be had from the used market in the range you were planning to buy in.
