Specialized Phenom vs Power
Anyone gone from a Phenom to a Power?
I find the Power more comfortable "except" I tend to feel pinching on the inner thighs especially on the downstroke. It looks very similar to the Phenom, but perhaps it's wider. Wondering if there's a way to set up the saddle to avoid the pinching. |
As long as it's the same width you should be ok. They're both available in the same widths (143, 155, etc.) so you might want to check to be sure you got the correct width. I LOVE my Phenom. It's the first and only stock saddle that's ever worked for me.

I have the same width in both, 155, Comp.
Have a couple brand new ones at home that I'm testing along with the Romin Evo. I think the Power & the Phenom are the most comfortable so far, but something about the Power seems a little more comfortable when going down rough pavement & of course the large channel & stubby nose. But for some reason I have much less thigh rub/pinching issues with the Phenom. Not sure why. May end up flipping a coin & then just tweak & get used to one or the other. |
When I had issues with that, my saddle was too far back. Even moving it 1cm forward and 1cm up makes a pretty big difference. I'd make sure you had that dialed in before you get too antsy about which saddle feels the best. You don't by chance have a COBL-GOBLR seat post do you? I noticed on that it seems I have to move the saddle forward a bit more than I was used to on the rails. Maybe 1cm or so...I'm infront of KOPS.
|
Wish I could get a bike fit without paying for a bike fit. :)
Right now I have a Kona Dew Drop (basically a hybrid with drop bars)...........just a normal seat post as far as I know. I've been making adjustments to the saddles as I ride according to google & common sense, but do I really know what I'm doing? Possibly not. |
Man...look up GCN's video on saddle height.
Honestly, try his heel method. Then measure your inseam and calculate .883 of it and see if you're in the ballpark. Then at most 1cm up or down after going on a 10 mile ride. And you can look up KOPS or just start with your saddle in the exact middle of the rails if you really aren't sure what you're doing. Since you have thigh rubbing issues (since you have a 155 I'm assuming you got measured), you may want to start one number on the rails infront of the middle...try that and let me know how it works out... |
Ok, thanks.
I'll give this a try this evening & see if I feel an improvement. (Yes, I got measured 3 times at 2 different stores & they said to go with 155 for the 3 saddles I'm trying). |
I adjusted everything properly (as far as I could tell) & went for a 45-minute ride this evening.
My left side was a-ok for the most part, but the right inside thigh is hitting the sharp edge of the saddle which gets irritating after a while & would probably get pretty bad on a long ride. In fact the entire right side just doesn't feel right...............pinching the thigh & the bone placement on the saddle just doesn't feel the same as the left side. Saddle is level & straight, so I'm not sure what's going on. If the right side felt like the left side I'd be home free. |
Like most people, you probably aren't symmetric.
Right leg might be shorter (requiring a shim), right foot might be flatter (requiring a wedge and/or arch support), right adductor muscles might be tighter or more developed (requiring some specific stretches or exercises...search YouTube for Egoscue exercises to increase your symmetry). |

I'll try a couple more adjustments tonight to see if I can get it to work.
I can always go with the Phenom or the Romin Evo since neither of them pinch unless I sit in just the wrong spot. I was just kind of stuck on the Power as it feels more comfortable on rougher roads & the family jewels are so free. |
Yeah I use a romin evo myself...nothing feels quite as good as it to me.
|
I give up on the Power saddle. Just can't stop the pinching.
So now I'm testing the Romin Evo Comp. Did a 45-minute ride & it was pretty decent. I'll try it again tomorrow & then on to the Phenom. The only thing is I'm used to a Brooks Flyer, so these hard saddles are not comfortable on the bones after 45 minutes. I got tired of having too much pressure on the nose of the Flyer, so that's why I've moved on. I'd like to be able to pee & other stuff when I get older. Once I pick one hopefully I can get used to the hardness & ride longer. |
